  • I was struck by this wonderful rust ‘patch work’ of metal siding that made up the side of the one of the old barn/ work shed. It was partially this view that made me want to photographing this old Manor Farm in Marr, South Yorkshire in England. I think that the grass growing on the roof of this building is a very nice touch. It is a sign that in small ways, nature is taking back this disused structure. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/14 / 1/100 / ISO 200 / Some Post Processing in CS2 (add some contrast and saturation)

  • A rusty bolt in a railway sleeper. Canon EOS 400D Tamron Macro unedited

  • Leica M8 Hand-held. Tone-mapped in Photomatix Pro. Only one exposure was made. This image was not compiled from numerous exposures. I wanted to see the potential of fine-tuning just one image. Saturation was increased slightly in Photoshop.

  • This is the top of the spiral staircase within Corstorphine Hill Tower. The Tower (also known as Clermiston Tower or the Scott Tower) is a memorial to Sir Walter Scott. Taken on my first trip to the Tower. Built on glaciated dolerite,The tower is square in plan, with buttressed corners; it has a corbelled, battlemented parapet surmounted by a small tower. It is built of coursed whinstone, likely to be from quarries on the hill, with dressed sandstone for the openings, parapets and plaques, probably from one of the large Edinburgh sandstone quarries. The Friends of Corstorphine Hill Tower (www.corstorphinehill.org.uk) is a group of people who have joined together to help look after the Corstorphine Hill area, for the benefit of people, animals, plants and the landscape. They participate in oped days to allow the public access to the tower. I visited for the first time on Sunday 28th September 2009 when the Tower was open as part of the Doors Open Weekend. Taken freehand with Canon 450D & Canon 18-55mm IS Lens and edited in Photoshop Elements 4. All profits from sales in 2009 will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support: www.macmillan.org.uk
