Cape Otway Lightstation is the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. This exposure was taken on a Flexaret IIa Twin Lens Reflex, using Fujifilm Velvia 50. Being a medium format image, it happily enlarges to 24 inches with no loss in detail.

Out of the darkness to where the trees are not so dense and the sun shines through- the archway of trees in colours of bronzes and reds, a picture to see and a pleasure to drive along. Apologies if quality not perfect – was taken through window of moving vehicle!!

Another scene from our day out on the Old Plains Road last spring. This is reputed to be the best wildflower road in Western Australia yet amazingly very few people know of it. It’s about 120 kms north east of Perth and the road surface is very good gravel. / In this picture the dominant flower is the blue leschenaultia which is all over the place during mid to late spring!
