  • The light was changing every minute. I climbed over some huge rocks to get into a great position to take some surfing shots, when suddenly this huge cloud covered up the sun. Suddenly the beautiful light illuminating the waves the surfers were riding was gone. I looked to my left and noticed the light here. Quickly, I grabbed my stuff and setup this shot…..only got one frame, because soon after this the light here was also gone. • An acrylic on Canvas of Jennifer, my Daughter Having worked on a few with some students in my School this year, I decided it was time to try a painting for myself. • Acrylic on Acrylic board. By Kyle Bultman, aged 11. Exploring acrylic painting with some of my students. Kyle used an online image as reference. I helped him with details, as he is just starting out in drawing and painting. In painting the image, we followed a very exacting regime, essentially adopting/adapting the ‘Flemish’ technique as closely as possible. A bit ambitious perhaps, but the students are ‘learning’ and the technique seemed to require less ‘tidying up’ and fixing. The painting in progress/ grey toned ‘underpainting’: Finished

  • she said if you could be here it would take 1000 times longer / to feel the stories that shine with your setting sun, / the reflection of light in your words, / your water brings me to safety / under your moon I can float all night long my nighttime is quiet / as is the rise and fall of your breath / when in your resting state you lay / and a myriad of dreams come somehow burning from within you know we don’t sleep until it’s time / you know we can’t hide until everything is out in the open she looks to the fallen photographs on the floor / life is held richly in our memories, someone once said / but what we see with our eyes open only scratches at surfaces / like your new moon awaking a promise / like the petals falling from a rose, fragile yet intriguingly beautiful / hinting at a desire to come we can’t say that there’s any blame / the ocean knows us better / she will wash the untold love to your shore / she will give us the salt water from tears / shed before the dawn of this spell / and we can hold the sorrow as something precious you know we don’t sleep until it’s time / you know we can’t hide until everything is out in the open

  • / A few years ago when my daughter Sarah was very young, she had a little dolly called Hamble whom she treated as her younger sister… Sarah has never forgiven me for cutting the dolls hair and painting her face in a similar tribal style, however I still maintain I would never have painted Hamble and that it was another dolly of much less importance to her!! Here is a part portion of a larger painting I’m currently working on. I liked the how effective her face was cropped in a frame, so I’ve uploaded it as a work to stand on it’s own, eventually I’ll finish the full work and upload it here also :) /
