This bridge lies on the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey. The land on the far side of the photograph is the Asian continent and on the near side of the bridge is the European continent. The bridge acts as a link between the two continents. The lights on the bridge were constantly changing colour. This image features in my calendar “Scenes From the Middle East”

The same bike the same s/c but with the onions also – I couldn’t decide which one I prefered out of these and as Jason mentioned the onions on no.1 what else could I do!! Such a mighty stream! No surprise that the waters of Trümmelbach are so powerful; the area this brook drains includes the famous glaciated mountain trio Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau... Lauterbrunnental, Switzerland. July 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135, Manfrotto tripod. Post-processing: retouch, tonality adjustment, sharpening, colorize, crop to square, subtle frame.

According to tradition, Sestri Levante was founded by the Ligurian tribe of the “Tigullii” and it was already known in the Roman Age under the name “Segesta Tigulliorum”. The ancient core of the town developed in the Middle Ages in a fortified position on the “island”. After the 15th century, the town expanded onto the alluvial plain south of the Gromolo river. Sestri Levante then became part of the Fieschi family’s domain, until it passed under the flags of the Republic of Genoa, which built the castle on the “island” and kept control of the town until the Napoleonic conquest.

In 299 B.C. Narni became a Roman colony named Narnia, and in 233 B.C. it became an important fort for the construction of the “Flaminia Road”. The Chronicle of Narnia Narni in the last years has acquired major fame thanks to the fantasy best-seller “The Chronicle of Narnia”. The author C.S. Lewis gave probably this title to his work finding inspiration from his knowledge of Latin literature. But the writer stayed in the Italian town and his biographers report that in author’s atlas the name Narni is underlined. In addition, in his writings can be found elements connected to some symbols of the town such as the griffin, the stone lion and the ancient sacrificial stone. Perhaps the Kingdom of Narnia is here…

Last Sunday
by parmiThis is another piece from the folio that I decided needed a facelift! Originally called Sunday, I gave it the vintage treatment, adding a couple of textures and blanching out the colour slightly, to resemble a postcard or memory of a past holiday or day off at the beach. This was taken at Playa de la Concha, in San Sebastian, the main beach in the port town. It was a beautiful day and our first day in there. A trip to the beach was well worth the long walk from the hostel. These changing rooms were up for hire, as well as umbrellas, sun beds and deck chairs. It is a beach full of activity and vibe. Labyrinths have always had a magical and slightly daunting effect on me. Possibly influenced by the David Bowie / Jennifer Connelly 80s movie. Walking around in the walls of a labyrinth, you have lost all your friends, but can still hear them in the distance, somewhere. Not sure where you are or where you are going, you stumble across an open area, an old forest. You see a makeshift burrow, made out of old stones, looks like it’s been there for hundreds of years. As you get closer, you hear soft whimpering coming from within. As you get to the old wooden door, you can clearly hear a child crying inside. That’s when you hear the growling behind you… Taken in Prague, along an old overgrown path, on the way to the hill that overlooks the whole city. I clearly remember looking at this and having a small shiver.
