Corfe Castle is a ruined castle, village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset. The castle dates back to the 11th century, and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage. Even to this day, all road traffic to and from the Swanage area must pass below the battlements of the castle. The picturesque village of Corfe Castle lies in the gap below the castle, and is some eight kilometres (five miles) south-east of Wareham, and the same distance west of Swanage. Both the current main A351 road to Swanage, and the Swanage Railway, thread their way through the gap and the village. The civil parish of Corfe Castle stretches across the width of the Isle of Purbeck, with coasts facing both the English Channel and Poole Harbour. It therefore includes sections of both the low lying sandy heathland that lies to the north of the castle, and the rugged Jurassic Coast upland to the south. The name “Corfe” is derived from the Saxon word for gap. All photographs and artworks in this portfolio are copyrighted and owned by the artist, Anne Staub. Mersea Island, the most Easterly populated island in the UK, may not be renowned as a photogenic location, but, standing here at East Mersea, with the gently flowing seawater lapping against the tops of the wellies, with the line of posts so obligingly composed, and with the glorious colours spreading across the late afternoon sky, it was possible for a moment or two to believe that this was the most beautiful place on Earth. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 30 seconds at f/13.
Herringfleet Mill can be found where you might least expect to find it – about twenty yards on the Suffolk side of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Given Norfolk’s monopoly on spectacular, well-preserved mills, it seems only fair that neighbouring Suffolk should have a few of its own…although it should be noted that even this mill is officially in the Norfolk Broads. This photograph was taken on an extremely February day. A 13 seconds’ exposure captured the movement of the clouds as they raced across the East Anglian sky. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 13 seconds at f/22.

One of the many many shots I took of the interior of this beautiful cathedral. There is a still pool fountain in the centre of rear nave, and it makes for some beautiful reflections. I’m amazed at how many people miss looking into this for a very different view. Salisbury Cathedral is the tallest surviving pre-1400 spire in the world. Cathedral of Saint Mary (Salisbury Cathedral), Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Canon 5D Mk II, 16mm. Available Large and well worth a look Large to appreciate the wonderful architecture.
