This was taking at a shopping center in my hometown. I brighten the colors in the photoshop.

I wish I could say that this photo was easy to do..but it wasn’t! / While it appears that I simply smeared my lipstick, it’s a bit more / complicated than that. I started out by converting it to a B&W-blue filter-then curving it using the red channel only. I then blew it up to about 300%..and airbrushed the dark red paint on..(no less than 200 agonizing brush strokes!) The flowers are, from left to right: turk’s cap, Mexican sunflower, golden allamanda, elephant’s ear, agapanthus, and passionflower. All photos were taken in gardens in and around Gainesville, Florida. 100% of the profits from the sale of my work will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

This is a collaboration between my daughter, Brianna (13), and myself. :) She’s a fantastic photographer for her age..she amazes me much of the time. She showed me this photo that she took, and I begged her to let me work on it. :) (yes…I had to beg! Teenagers..ya know?) Anyway, she’s been studying Japanese for a little over 2 years now, so when I asked her what we should call it, she said simply: ki. / Japanese for tree.. / / / >featured< / homepage / / /

I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons.

I have been wanting to do a follow-up to Colors of Nature, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to present it. Since I have already done flora, I wanted to do something with fauna, and something unique… Then it struck me how amazingly colorful snakes can be, and how that is something most wouldn’t think to notice. So, I present to you these beautiful snakes, all of whom are wild and were captured, photographed, and released in and around north and central Florida. The colors here are completely natural; I’ve not altered them at all. The snakes are: corn snake (aka red rat snake, Elaphe guttata guttata), yellow rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta quadrivittata), rough green snake (Opheodrys aestivus aestivus), and bluestripe garter snake (same one as in Feeling Blue Thamnophis sirtalis similus). I saw the reflection of that “prisoned” tree in the window, while I was enjoying a mountain climb here in Macedonia, a moment before i could see it free. It gave me a thought of what are we doing to our mother nature and couldn’t resist to pull the shutter of my camera as a modest contribution to a free green planet.
