  • This is the actual color of Crater Lake in Oregon. It is the deepest lake in the world, and because it has minimal animal or plant life in the lake, it is a pristine blue color. The lake was formed from the blast of a volcano (Wizard Island is the remnant). The only boats allowed are the tour boats, which are few and far between.

  • I went out on a trike ride this afternoon. Only 20% chance of rain, except we got 100% of the 20% that was expected. I kept saying to my self, hmmm, water makes the colors more saturated. What colors??? So here is the only one of the batch that I can post. We are half way between summer and fall. Rain is in the forecast, and I can forget about getting out to take pictures of the moon anytime soon

  • Image of the Grand Canyon south rim Arizona.

  • A commonly photographed subject in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. / At sunrise, light briefly illumitates the underside of this arch. A beautifull place to watch the sunrise and grab a few shots. Enjoy! /

  • The vivid colors in this oil painting invite the viewer to take the walk an follow the trail of light in this warm summer night. Original: oil on plywood 15.7” x 12.6” (40cm x 32cm)

  • In Northern Minnesota we took a canoe trip in Voyageurs National Park. The day we arrived it was raining lightly and a very heavy fog sat over the lakes and rivers. It seemed our September vacation was not off to a very pleasant start. While standing on the dock waiting for our boat to come and shuttle us to Kettle Falls on the US/Canadian border, I took this picture of a small waterfall coming into the Ash river and the autumn colors reflecting off the water. The next three days were gloriously sunny and mild. The fall leaves were stunning and the blue water of the park lakes was truly just like a dream.

Background Information: / Peyto Lake is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway. It was named for Ebenezer William Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area. The lake is formed in a valley of the Waputik Range, between Caldron Peak, Peyto Peak and Mount Jimmy Simpson, at an elevation of 1,860 m (6,100 ft). During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway. The lake is fed by the Peyto Creek, which drains water from the Caldron Lake and Peyto Glacier (part of the Wapta Icefield), and flows into the Mistaya River. • Sun rays break through in the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park, highlighting the beautiful fall colors.

  • First Light of The Lord Watching this sunrise come up in Rocky Mountain National Park was akin to witnessing paradise unfold before your eyes. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and stunning sunrises I have seen in a long while. The way the Alpineglow reflected against the mountains was amazing, the color changing ever so quickly, it seemed to change color as fast as I could hold down the shutter. / Hope ya all like it! Tell me what ya think! / —-John More can be seen on my website at jdebordphoto.com

  • There will be times when you will be in / the field without a camera. And, you will see the most glorious sunset / or the most beautiful scene that you have ever witnessed. / Don’t be bitter because you can’t record it. / Sit down, drink it in, and enjoy it for what it is!

  • When things go wrong as they sometimes will, / When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, / When funds are low and the debts are high, / And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. / When care is pressing you down a bit. / Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit. / Life is queer with its twists and turns / As every one of us sometimes learns. / And many a failure turns about / When he might have won had he stuck it out: / Don’t give up though the pace seems slow - / You may succeed with another blow. / Success is failure turned inside out - / The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. / And you never can tell how close you are. / It may be near when it seems so far: / So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit / It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. • It rained over two inches today and the wind was downright nasty. So of course, I decided to take a stroll through Bandon Park in the heart of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Light was practically nonexistent, but the downpour had just ended, so I mounted my camera on the ol’ tripod and started shootin’ up a storm. Turns out, it was a much more beautiful autumn evening than I ever could have hoped for! The city of Williamsport owns this beautiful park and it is meticulously maintained by our Parks & Recreation Department. The leaves will all be gathered and will be used to make a wonderfully rich mulch. The mulch is used by the city and is also made available to local residents in the spring for their gardening needs. A Canon EOS 10D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens. The lens was set to its 24mm focal length. The camera’s shutter speed was 1/6th sec at f/8. ISO was set to 400. This photograph was taken on a Manfrotto tripod. Your comments are always welcome!
