This image is metaphorical because it is actually Mouse, the horse, who pulled me out of the ashes renewed. She was a gift from my husband for my fiftieth birthday. It was a time when I was struggling to find direction in my life as well as my art. This dapple gray beauty renewed me and inspired me and has helped me to grow as a person as well as an artist.
An original pastel painting. Original artwork size- 45cm x 67cm. 2007 It seems the larger the animal, the more docile and appealing they are. What would the world be without these magnificent creatures…...great and small! / These two are probably old enough to start training as a team in harness. / Sold at exhibition :) Has been featured in ‘Everything Draft Horse’, ‘Equine Art and Photography’, Traditional Equine Art’ and ‘All Pets Great and Small’ groups.
Another Clydie. There were about a dozen of them in this paddock in Mansfield and I used a roll or two of film on them. From these photos I have composed many drawings and paintings. / Water colour pencils on mount board. Size approx. 25cm x 34cm. 2003 Sold. Has been featured in the ‘Equine Art and Photography’ and ‘Creative Cards’ groups.
By now you would’ve guessed my love of horses! This was a commission of a true gentleman, a Warmblood. He was only a small one apparently for a warmblood, about 16hh! The people who commissioned this had others and they were bigger. / Colour pencil and white gouache on grey mount board. Size – 45cm x 60cm. Has been featured in ‘Equine Art and Photography’ group.
These are the hills behind my place. Typical for this area. I just added the horses, although dairy cows is what you see around here. / Colour pencil on mount board. Size approx – A4 2003 Sold Has been featured in ‘Colour Pencil Art’ and ‘Pencil Drawing’ groups.
The Phantom Horsewoman. by Thomas Hardy Queer are the ways of a man I know: / He comes and stands / In a careworn craze, / And looks at the sands / And in the seaward haze / With moveless hands / And face and gaze, / Then turns to go… / And what does he see when he gazes so? They say he sees as an instant thing / More clear than today, / A sweet soft scene / That once was in play / By that briny green; / Yes, notes alway / Warm, real, and keen, / What his back years bring- / A phantom of his own figuring. Of this vision of his they might say more: / Not only there / Does he see this sight, / But everywhere / In his brain-day, night, / As if on the air / It were drawn rose bright- / Yea, far from that shore / Does he carry this vision of heretofore: A ghost-girl-rider. And though, toil-tried, / He withers daily, / Time touches her not, / But she still rides gaily / In his rapt thought / On that shagged and shaly / Atlantic spot, / And as when first eyed / Draws rein and sings to the swing of the tide. Models: the incomparable “KellyAnnDoll” and “Wizard II”
Churchill Island, located off Philip Island Vic, has a working horse display every Easter. A gorgeous chestnut overo foal on a bright midsummer day in the Rocky Mountains was the inspiration for this colorful piece with its abstract background full of the hues of summer.
A commission I did some time ago as a raffle prize. Wildon Impressive, ‘Imp’, for short, is a lovely Arabian pony stallion.
