Oil on Canvas / It only rains two or three months out of the year, though flowers bloom year round the first real punch of color is when the intense sun hits saturated land and everything that’s waited pops out of the soil. The air’s still turbulent, dust storms in the prairies and meadows sweep into the mountains, and head for the ocean.

Click here to add me to your watch list. / .................................. / Taken behind the fish processing plant in St. Mary’s, Newfoundland during the off-season. / This is the only shot I’ve ever taken with the intent of using selective colouring in post processing. When I was taking the picture, I popped up the built in flash and put my finger in front of it to enhance the reds a little. The bright red glare that you see there is the reflection of the flash blasting through my finger. To me it kind of looks like there’s a light blinking inside the box. Would you have pressed it?

Some more of these wonderful velvety roses, greatest roses ever I swear. I adjusted the white balances when I shot this to give it a more bluish tone. Taken indoors with flash and with a sigma 105 mm macro lens. Enjoy!

Featured in Bee and Wasp Passions and in Bug Hunt Spring can be a time of amazing colors and contrasts. Recently I came across this scene with my macro lens. A wild rose (Rosa acicularis), with its amazing pink and yellow, hosts an iridescent green wasp (hymenoptera pteromalidae). The colors were amazing in “real life”, and captured perfectly by the Nikon D300 and Sigma 150 mm macro lens at the beach on Vancouver Island, Canada.

Done in GIMP and Photoshop used brushes 12 thru 80 in special brushes. This little Butterfly is still in my Plants and appears to be quite comfortable.

I love the reflection in this drop…the lighting came from a small table lamp…it is reflecting off of a dried red sweetpea flower…just catching the light perfectly. / I think this shoot was just very soul searching….stirring the spirit within. / Canon 500D / Sigma 70mm Macro /
