If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands. / Douglas Adams Quote Wood Ducks / Wood Ducks —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- It took forever to finally get a closeup shot of him. He was so shy and kept flying across the lake. They were here at the city park during fall migration. They are not tame but truly wild ducks taking a quick break before traveling again. I was amazed to see them at the city lake were people walk all the time because of the fact they normally do not like to be near people. The only other times I have seen them is in more secluded areas and they always flew away before I was even close. I sat very still for over two hours and finally this wood duck drake swam close enough for me to get a great shot of him. I am so thankful for that wonderful day. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Let’s help keep our waterways clean and protected. This is a Living Planet after all Let’s keep it that way, alive and living

The Southeastern Lubber Grasshopper is quite impressive to see with its flamboyant colors, large size, and tranquil demeanor. It is very slow moving so it’s quite easy to get a good close look at it. I was at a family reunion picnic when some of my nieces spotted this pair “riding piggyback.” I thought the name Southeastern Lubber kind of a tongue in cheek name for what really appears to be the Southeastern Lover.

The male wood duck is among the most colorful and beautiful of ducks; however, it is harder to approach and much shyer than other ducks. I was happy to get this shot and will continue to hope for better ones in the future.

Could we but draw back the curtain, / That surrounds each others lives, / See the naked heart and spirit; / Know what spur the action gives; / Often we would find it better, / Purer then we think we would. / We would love each other better, / If we only understood. / Unknown Original

Rainstorms produce the most dramatic skyscapes that impress me as spirits given all the faces I see in clouds. Catching a great cloud formation takes patience when looking for vibrant colors, movement and / diversity of imagery. I believe imagining what clouds look like has universal appeal like music and art that are universal languages and help to unite us all in our appreciation of nature’s artistry. I perceived a large male spirit in the sky / among many other images that combine to create this vibrant abstract. I also perceived the flames behind the clouds and breaking through as hotspots as if there were a fire.
