  • Surrealistic Digital Art / / _“Let there be light” is an English translation of the Hebrew יְהִי אוֹר (yehiy ‘or). Other translations of the same phrase include the Latin phrase fiat lux, and the Greek phrase γενηθήτω φώς (or genēthētō phōs). The phrase is often used for its metaphorical meaning of dispelling ignorance. The phrase comes from the third verse of the book of Genesis in the King James Bible: 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. / 1:2 – And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. / 1:3 – And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. / 1:4 – And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness._ / / Pair with… / / / / / MCN: CCB37-A1E56-16AAA / / © Imber 2007. • An acrylic on Canvas of Jennifer, my Daughter Having worked on a few with some students in my School this year, I decided it was time to try a painting for myself. So, upon reflection this is the first painting that I have done. Thanks to Martin Kirkwood for hosting on Painters in Modern Times www.pimt.co.uk

  • Acrylic on Acrylic board. By Kyle Bultman, aged 11. Exploring acrylic painting with some of my students. Kyle used an online image as reference. I helped him with details, as he is just starting out in drawing and painting. In painting the image, we followed a very exacting regime, essentially adopting/adapting the ‘Flemish’ technique as closely as possible. A bit ambitious perhaps, but the students are ‘learning’ and the technique seemed to require less ‘tidying up’ and fixing. The painting in progress/ grey toned ‘underpainting’: Finished

  • Miggy photographed in the style of Vladimir Tretchikoff. If you don’t know who he was you will certainly have seen his work. The painter of the ‘Chinese Girl’ and ‘Balinese Girl’ and other ladies from the Orient and beyond. Prints of his work hang in literally millions of homes throughout the world. He was reputedly the worlds wealthiest artist after Picasso! Miggy was photographed in my front room and the sky was shot with my point and shoot on a trip to the supermarket. The two images were combined to create this single image. • An acrylic on canvas. Portrait of a Medieval Girl, losely based on Mary Boleyn. 40×40 cm. (16” x 16”) I had already experimented with this image using Corel Painter, so thought it was about time I tried to paint it. Some of the stages, in case anyone is interested: /

  • Hopefully the title says it all. A couple commented on perhaps the reality/unreality of the image. It is a 3D render, using photographed skin for a shader and High Dynamic Range Lighitng a spotlight and Global Illumination. Thus contributing to the ‘realistic’ side of it. Skin normally has light penetrate the surface and bouncing around (Sub Surface Scattering). This was not turned on. Also, I gave it a High Key filter (NIK software). These two helped add to the unreality of an already unreal model.. It is normally possible to add to ‘photo reality’ in photoshop. I did another render with Sub Surface Scattering turned on and tried a few things in photoshop. I didn’t spend that much time in Photoshop, but I would be interested if anyone thinks they look more ‘photographic’ even with a quick couple of filters on top.

  • First artwork in a new series I am working on inspired by the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this iconic image, a beautiful but dangerous Queen of Hearts as femme fatale draws her finger across her throat to signify her threatening intentions. “The Queen had only one way of settling all difficulties, great or small. ‘Off with his head!’ she said, without even looking round.” / -Lewis Carroll, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland “ Original artwork measures 19×25 inches, mixed media on gray Strathmore watercolor paper. This artwork took about twelve hours to complete over a two-day period. View more of my artwork at http://www.lynnetteshelley.com
