  • “The Road To Home” Ya know, sometimes I just sit in amazement when I am shooting and just look, gaze, and take it all in…..if photography has honestly taught me anything, it’s to see better, noticing things you normally wouldn’t even see. Case in point, this shot here. Most people probably just drive on by this place never giving it a second glance, but to me, it was something very special…...so special that I spent about 30 minutes here shooting it. Living in Colorado really has it’s benefits this time of the year…as Autumn sets in and the sun goes south, the light becomes so utterly magical, thanks to our elevation. It becomes so warm and saturated in the morning, that everything seems so alive….so gold. Captured on a rural backroad between Boulder and Lyons, the old road leading to cattle pastures I felt made a very worthy subject, especially considering the colors involved, the light, and the overall composition with the tree. • This is from a trip we took to see my sister .. we were on the road and this called to us ..it had a very fast river coming out of it which crashed downstream for miles. The light was hitting the side of the mountains in spots. Its been a long time ago but the views in this state are amazing. Scanned from 35mm Slide. A Nice Place For The Wall

  • required a small bushwhack to get to this spot, the willows were kinda rough, but it was worthwhile to get to the river to get this shot of Ripsaw Ridge in the background

  • Another candidate for my upcoming Desert Glory Calendar. The rising sun illuminating the fantastic colors andshapes of the Grand Canyon as a cloudburst passes over with a bit of rain.

  • A Stormy Autumn Colorado’s Longs Peak shrouded in Autumn thunderstorm clouds, stands towering above the quaking Aspen below. This scene was really something to see….the atmosphere was just to die for. The way the contrast played out with the yellow and gold Aspens against that dark sky was astonishing, the light was really changing fast so I had to be fairly quick while shooting this. Processed in HDR, let me know what ya all think! / —-John

  • Captured 12/13/2008 on a very frigid morning at Cherry Creek State Park, here in Colorado, I froze my damn keester off because I was dense and forgot to bring along my damn jacket! It was an incredible sunrise folks, one which I won’t forget, the colors changed and developed by the minute, going from the cool blues to the warm pinks, reds, and oranges…and I was able to get something in the shots which I had never had been able to before, the lake actually shimmering! In some of the other shots in days to come, you can really see this, and you kind of can here in the bottom left side a tad, an odd occurrence, and one I finally managed to snag! Long exposure, using my Singh-Ray CPL and Marumi ND4, on my Minolta 18-70 DT Lens, I hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! / —-John !

  • While exploring the mining ghost town of Summitville, CO, this curious red fox approached. It had been raining lightly and his coat was still wet. Seemingly timid in nature, he observed us as calmly as we did him while I fired off a few shots using a beanbag window mount. I felt as if his trusting eyes were looking straight into my soul as he studied the camera. Nikon D200 / f/9.0 / Focal Length: 400mm / ISO 400 / Metering Mode: Spot / WB: Cloudy

  • One of our family’s favorite vacation spots is Pagosa Springs in Colorado. We love soaking in the hot springs pools, play in the swimming pool or in San Juan River, go fishing, or just enjoy the nature and all the beauty around. Here’s a capture from the Hot Springs pool in Pagosa, taken early in the morning.

  • I spent the afternoon at Ft Logan National Cemetary in Denver for a funeral of a WW2 Veteran…I am a military brat. Both my mom and my dad were Marines and yet in my almost 31 years of life this is the first full metal service I have ever been too. It was the most amazing thing to be witness of. The guns, the flag, the doves…Was amazing!!! When it was all said and done what does any photographer do?? Take pictures…All the White headstones just amazed me. They go for miles and miles, thats all you see it is a reminder of how someone could be so unselfish to give there life for our Country! WOW! Such hero’s. I don’t do sappy stuff so this is new for me. A tribute and a memorial for each and every one who have served or are still serving (including my Mommy) / HDR Processed (Very mildly) and then enhanced in LR / Nikon D60 DSLR / Tamron 18-250mm / PLEASE VIEW LARGE TO REALLY GET THE FULL EFFECT /

  • Last spring I got the opportunity to join a friend at a banding station here in Colorado, where she sometimes volunteers. The birds are banded, measured, weighed, and examined, before they release them, as soon as possible. This is a Yellow Warbler. / Nikon D80, 18-135 mm lens / f/7.1, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, focal length 135 mm

  • A Foggy morning Vertorama.Tonemapping done in DPHDR. Texture done in PS. / Taken at the Jean K. Tool S.W.A. in Colorado. Canon 20D. 17mm.

  • Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Now that being said, hope ya all dig it! / John See more on my website at www.jdebordphoto.com Minolta MAXXUM 5D / Shutter Speed: 1/25 second / F Number: F/9.0 / Focal Length: 80 mm / ISO Speed: 200

  • This Bull Elk calmly strolled through the water at the shoreline of Lake Estes early this morning. Even though a man got ‘in his face’, moving toward him within 10 feet, he continued to walk without any signs of agitation…a wonderful reminder for me to take every step of my day in peace…. Estes Park, Colorado

  • As the sun peeked over the mountain at Lake Estes this morning, two big Bull Elk were sparring on the shore, feeling their oats and having a go at cracking their antlers together, just for fun. They really seemed to be more playing than actually sparring. The sound of those antlers is incredible and the sight of them together like that at first light was a blessed beginning for my day today… Estes Park, Colorado.

  • Living high in the Colorado Rockies was magical. On occasion, it was also heck of a lot of work. This snow is the one that drove us to move down from 7700 feet. This is our seasonal neighbor’s cabin. We were farther down the lane. It took me a week with a big two-stage snow blower to clear a blower wide path from the house to the street. That was the single largest storm we experienced in 12 years in the Poudre Canyon west of Fort Collins. As winter approaches, I can’t say I’m sorry to be living in Arizona. 278 views Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ12 with layers of white with a touch of texture underneath to reduce pixelation.
