This is an oil painting I did the day of my wedding. It was a class I was taking and the instructor knew I was getting married that afternoon. So he had the class paint as fast as they could, he said it will come out better then spending a lot of time on it. Well, he was right! All the paintings in the class turned out so beautiful and it took us 2 hours and I was off at noon to get ready for my wedding. This was the happiest day of my life! We were married in the little church in the Garden of the Gods. The most beautiful place on the earth. When I brought my painting home my husband was amazed and loved the picture. To this day we cherish this picture the most. It was in July and the flowers were blooming and there in the back drop was Pikes Peak covered with snow. A day of beauty, with love in our hearts, no wonder this painting turned out so good. This original picture is not available for sale. You can also visit my website: www.RedfishArtwork.com
Taken on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, and a shot which is a personal favorite of mine, thoughts welcomed!
Standing like a sentinel on guard, this male Coyote in Rocky Mountain National Park glances over his shoulder as he hears something behind him. I managed to captured him when he was prowling around the area for prey, such a gorgeous animal, with the late day sun hitting him perfectly. His eyes are just stunning….. —-—-—-—-—-—-—— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Ya, he seemed to be getting down and doing the boogie woogie as I captured him, he wasn’t to shy actually, but made for some wonderful shots! / Thoughts welcomed! —John
Sunset in Garden of the Gods.
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. I about froze my butt off getting this shot of Mummy Mountain, but I wanted something that really showed all the detail here….that represented what it’s all about being a nature photographer in Colorado…... / Thoughts welcomed! / HDR blending used to bring out more dramatic light and detail / John

Winter rolls along in the Colorado High Country along the Mount Evans Wildernes. I decided to do this shot in B&W because I really wanted to emphasize the cold, the drama, and the atmosphere as a whole. Your thoughts, as always, are appreciated! / —John

This past week saw me shooting like crazy, making a record 3 trips to the Mount Evans Wilderness Area and surrounding areas in 4 days. Without a doubt, this scene is one that just has to smack travelers and tourists in the face. situated at 10,600 ft (3,230 m) above sea level, the view literally comes out of no where. You round this corner unexpectedly on a twisty road, and all the sudden out of no where you are greeted with this huge lake and THIS scene of mountains and it floors you. The scene itself is just so, well, incredible, like something you usually only see in a fine art painting, or in some distant land in National Geographic….honestly, it is one of the most amazing views I believe I have ever seen. Personally I much prefer it to The Maroon Bells which is better known, and why it’s better known is beyond me. / So hang tight folks, I have MANY new photos to come and share with you all. Let me know what ya all think!
Country Relaxin’ EarIier this year, ventured up to Guanella Pass and onwards to the Ghost Town of Como, a literal timewarp that harks back to the wildwest, fully intact and persevered, few folks still live here. It is high up, probably close to 10,000 feet, and this winter has been VERY bad in the high country. In fact just last week they interviewed a resident of Como and she talked about how the town was totally cut off of supplies…which made me right away think of the horses there. I have photographed these horses the last 5 years now, and I always find them so friendly…not your typical horses, these are true and tried working horses…where Cowboys still exist and the west still lives. Upon entering Como, I was shocked at the snowbanks, over 20 feet high, and they were plowed out finally from a construction crew using Caterpillars. And low and behold, so was the feeding field for the horses….... :) I was happy they were ok, as I was quite concerned, as they have become kind of a good friend to me and my camera. More on Como can be found here and here and it’s history as a Wild West town Thoughts welcomed / —-John
Garden of the Gods, Colorado
Captured 12/13/2008 on a very frigid morning at Cherry Creek State Park, here in Colorado, I froze my damn keester off because I was dense and forgot to bring along my damn jacket! It was an incredible sunrise folks, one which I won’t forget, the colors changed and developed by the minute, going from the cool blues to the warm pinks, reds, and oranges…and I was able to get something in the shots which I had never had been able to before, the lake actually shimmering! In some of the other shots in days to come, you can really see this, and you kind of can here in the bottom left side a tad, an odd occurrence, and one I finally managed to snag! Long exposure, using my Singh-Ray CPL and Marumi ND4, on my Minolta 18-70 DT Lens, I hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! / —-John !
Wildflowers in Colorado’s Winter Park. Taken in July of this year. I needed a break from winter and gray drudgery… Please see my Etsy listing for this image – and purchase a pearlescent metallic print of this beautiful photograph!
A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. Hope ya all like it! / —-John
Canadian geese taking off in the morning from Prospect Lake, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. I used my 70-300 lens for this capture, so they look like they’re really close. I also added some dry brush in PSE 3.
Watching this Coyote move acrosss the landscape was amazing….she walked in silence with such gentle steps, leaving her beautiful tracks upon the untouched snow. Part of my Coyote Series.
This image was featured in the group, American Southwest on March 19, 2009. and again on March 23, 2009 by the Stream Crossings group. It was a cold January day in the Rockies. While snowshoeing in Colorado on the trail from Frisco to Breckenridge, we came across this frozen stream early in our trek. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please do not copy or download this image. An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language. / -Martin Buber This young Mule Deer was one of 13 in our yard and driveway yesterday morning scrounging for food in the midst of a bitter cold week. I put out some sunflower seeds for them, which they scarfed up….their big gentle eyes told me how grateful they were and my heart smiled….it’s so true that when we give to others, we give to ourselves… God Bless All Beings who are enduring this extreme cold….God Bless Us All….
