At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. An entire sea of yellow and gold….caught in my lens for a fleeting instant, where the whole world was at peace…. A Sunrise in the Wilderness Sunrise captured along Mt Evans, in Colorado. The pines in the background are rare Bristlecome Pines, one of the oldest living things on earth. I just had to pause, in spite of me sucking in the o2 at the elevation, and take a few shots.

And that is exactly what I did, slowdown, park, get out the tripod, and started shooting away! Often times the most beautiful things are the things which we fail to notice. Life’s little things, like this for example. My intention was to head for the mountains and normally when doing so, I wouldn’t even be paying attention to the sky, let alone stopping to shot it. Well, this time I took some time out so I wouldn’t miss it! Glad I did to, it was downright stunning! No one around, as you can see, just me, the breeze, and the colors of nature. I have always said that there is something about being up at this time of the day….and yeah, there is. Processed in HDR, long exposure using my 4ND and my CPL, let me know what ya think watchers! I went to the USAFA to look for deer and elk. The animals got away but I did get some great views of the setting sun. Look closely and you will see that the moon and 2 stars have appeared. They are actually the moon, Jupiter and Venus. /

Captured 12/13/2008 on a very frigid morning at Cherry Creek State Park, here in Colorado, I froze my damn keester off because I was dense and forgot to bring along my damn jacket! It was an incredible sunrise folks, one which I won’t forget, the colors changed and developed by the minute, going from the cool blues to the warm pinks, reds, and oranges…and I was able to get something in the shots which I had never had been able to before, the lake actually shimmering! In some of the other shots in days to come, you can really see this, and you kind of can here in the bottom left side a tad, an odd occurrence, and one I finally managed to snag! Long exposure, using my Singh-Ray CPL and Marumi ND4, on my Minolta 18-70 DT Lens, I hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! / —-John !

*Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Captured in rural Boulder County, Colorado….let me just say this was honest to God unbelievable to photograph. I had to handhold these shots because of my bum knee and well, the lightning was going crazy right above me. But I managed to get some dang nice shots off. This being one of them. I am really happy with this one, I debated about a square crop, but in the end I figured why the heck not, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right folks? Rural northern Boulder County, Colorado Honest to God above, this was utterly amazing….I can’t really find the wards to describe the whole scene to you all but I will try my best. I had to handhold this, along with the other shots to come, my knee is totally kaput so using a tripod was pretty much out of the question, however that isn’t the only reason…as we were shooting last evening, the lightning was all over the place, and well there were times when I wanted to grab it and try, but thought better of it lol Tripods make for great Lightning conductors! lol The clouds were just insane, and I mean really crazy, this storm went severe dropping reports of funnel clouds to the north east of us and hail as well. It passed over our heads, but sure made for some utterly incredible atmospheric shots! So you take that, a Sunflower field the size of a small state, the sunset, a country road, and the foothills and mountains as a backdrop, and friends, you have quite a scene you will NEVER forget!
