Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

‘Garden of the Gods’ is a wondrous ‘garden’ just out of downtown Colorado Springs. Known as ‘high desert’ Colorado Springs is nestled at the foot of Pike’s Peak, one of the many 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado. What’s bizarre is the fact this landscape spends most of the winter blanketed by snow, yet when the snow melts, much of it is dry and desert like. Colorado Springs is at around 9000 feet, so the air is clear but thin. This particular rock formation is called ‘The Prayer’ for obvious reasons. It’s an amazing place.

Driving along Trailridge road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park Colorado. Shot with a Pentax *istDS camera and a Pentax 18 – 55mm lens.
This little guy seemed more curious than anything. He alternated between standing up for a photo op and dropping down to lick minerals from the soil. Location: Mt Evans Wilderness Area

The other side of Purpose Served. I went back the following day to take some more pictures of this leaf. The first set was kind of blurry and didn’t really depict the blood red veins in the leaf in sharp detail. I was happy to see the leaf was still there after 24 hours. Canon XTi f/2.8 50mm 1/100

Boulders and a fast moving stream in the mountains of Colorado. The original colored image forms part of my Geneva Creek portfolio. This is a black/white/green derivative that I rather liked.

This church is located near Allenspark, along the Peak to Peak Highway in Colorado, the one that goes between Black Hawk and Estes Park. Popular among photographers and other spectators. This was taken on my home from a retreat in Estes Park last October. The colors were so wonderful, so I had to stop and snap a few frames. I edited out the people that were around the church, in PSE 3. / Nikon D80, 18-135 mm lens / f/25, 1/50 sec, ISO 200, focal length 26 mm
This is an acrylic painting on canvas. 11×14 Also it is my first ‘mountain’ painting. I was attracted to the colors.
Taken last fall, near Aspen, Co. I loved the golden early morning light filtering through the trees over the water. :) Post processing in CS4 to create an Orton effect. / Oct 7, 2008 8 : 30am / Olympus E-510 / F3.5 / 1/100th / Zuiko 50mm / ISO 100 Thank you for looking :)
Colorado River in Grand Canyon after rain. The day before water was blue, after rain is always red. A view of the Marble Canyon and the Colorado River from Navajo Bridge Captured with Nikon D70. Featured in All Countries ~ Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers group 04/07/2009
Red Rocks State Park ~ near Denver ~ Colorado. / Quite the contrasting scene with some recent fluffy snow clinging to the tree’s and shrubs yet would have blown off and melted from the smooth red rocks..
This is Blue Lake located in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Colorado. Not sure why it’s called Blue Lake, unless it looks blue when you’re standing over it. Anyway, this is found after a 2.5-3.0 mile hike from the Mitchell Lake trailhead. This located at 11,352’ above sea level. Lots of mosquitoes up here, too :( Nikon D300, Tokina 12-24mm f4.0 lens, with B&W polarizer
alpine tarn at 11,500 feet in elevation below Loveland Pass west of Denver, Colorado
Mt. Evans is one of the over 14,000 feet high mountains in Colorado. it is unique as it has the highest paved road in North America as it winds its way up to the top of the mountain. On the way up there are many memorable views as well as heart stopping curves and turns. This image was taken on one of the trails that offer hikes on the way to the summit. It was sunny and but there were shady areas that needed a boost so I took several exposures and used HDR to meld them together, Canon 40D / Lens: 17-85 / Three exposures 1 stop between / Hand held
