Shot at Red Rocks State Park outside of Denver…..something about this just caught me eye, the composition and the textures….the stark reality of winter, and the natural saturation itself. Hope ya all like it!
Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, about four miles or 6 km south of Page. Accessible via a 3⁄4-mile (1.2 km) hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista. / This image is actually made of 4 pictures taken with my Canon 20D – 17-40mm L lens and stitched together to create this panoramic
Hiking down Havasu Creek.
We spent 3 magical days backpacking at Havasu Falls, one of the most beautiful place on our planet.
This shot was taken from the Garden of the Gods National Park. The Garden of the Gods is known for all of the sandstone rock fromations in the area. The Garden of the Gods is located in Colorado Springs, CO. One of the rock formation is called Siamese Twins because large duplicate structures are attached in the middle. At the mid point of this particular rock formation is a natural window that frames the mountains in the distance. This photo shows Pikes Peak through the natural window. Taken in June, Pikes Peak which is typically snow covered, has very little snow.
First morning at Havasu Falls. This was one of our most memorable backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon, USA.
Colorado is certainly known for it’s parks, and this one I happened upon out of the blue one day….it really is a majestic site, with these odd rock formations just jetting straight up from the earth, as if reaching for the sky. I was also lucky enough to capture the distant clouds as they were building for afternoon thunderstorms, later that day….spose you can say I like the sense of drama that they add to the image overall. / HDR processed, thoughts most welcomed! —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Garden Of the Gods Park, outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is without a doubt one of my all time favorite places to shoot at….the light there just dances, especially during the golden hours just after sunrise…..Pike’s Peak is in the background, with the wind blowing the snow into the sky. / Thoughts welcomed! Canyonlands NP Utah. This is Mesa Arch which faces East and catches reflected light from below. My favorite part of this is the washboard lady. Can you see her. /
Monument Valley is like a moonscape of amazing red rocks and earth. It was loved by the famous western Director John Ford and is the back drop to many of his classic John Wayne films. Like Stagecoach. Just over the border from Arizona it is truly unforgettable. One of the great places in the world to visit.

Castle Rock emerges out of Lake Powell, Utah. This large rock is composed of sandstone and is located just north of the Wahweap Marina and lies between Warm Creek and Antelope Island. Some information about Lake Powell and this structure: Lake Powell was created from many formations over a long period of time: Morrison, Kayenta, Entrada, and Carmel. The Entrada formations make up Castle Rock as well as Tower Butte. Some of the formations resulted in cliffs and ledges colored in black and hues of blue. Other rock formations are white or creamy yellow and consist of sandstone, limestone, and mudstone. Some of the formations closer to Wahweap are made of red, orange, and white Navaho sandstone. There is a wonderful mixture of color and texture throughout the marinas that make Lake Powell a truly unique experience. Castle rock is one of the more Scenics rock formations near Antelope Island and is composed of Navaho and Entrada Sandstone. Slot canyons and inlets can be found at the end of the long lake passageways and main channels. It is best to go out on a smaller boat to reach the slot canyons and inlets due to the shallow waters. The blue waters of the lake are a result of many different rivers draining from the upper regions of Colorado and Utah. Lake Powell is located within Glen Canyon National Recreational Area on the Arizona-Utah border and lies in the heart of The Grand Circle.
I had to go back and take another shot of this little waterfall while the yellow Aspen leaves were still reflecting off the water. I usually don’t like taking photos of waterfalls unless it’s an overcast day but this time a sunny day worked in my favor. This little waterfall is in a hard to get to area of Cheyenne Canyon, which is near the famous Seven Falls, and Helen Hunt Falls in Colorado Springs. Canon XTi f/22 18mm(18-55mm) 13 secs. * /
Garden of the Gods, Colorado
Taken September 26 2008, and just processed in lightroom
This church is located near Allenspark, along the Peak to Peak Highway in Colorado, the one that goes between Black Hawk and Estes Park. Popular among photographers and other spectators. This was taken on my home from a retreat in Estes Park last October. The colors were so wonderful, so I had to stop and snap a few frames. I edited out the people that were around the church, in PSE 3. / Nikon D80, 18-135 mm lens / f/25, 1/50 sec, ISO 200, focal length 26 mm
