This is a southwestern pot with a ceremonial Navajo arrow, turquoise necklace and and a ” talking feather”. The short story behind the feather is that when the one holding the feather toward the sky is given divine inspiration in what is being said an is not to be interrupted, but to be listened to.

Driving through the Big Thompson Canyon from Estes to Loveland, CO, there is a stark difference between the Rockies and Pines, / then suddenly the red clay of mesas in the low lands. / To many of us, this is a beautiful reminder of our ancestor’s land.

Nikon D90, Sigma 18-200mm at 18mm, ISO200, 1/320, f11 with Hoya CIR Polarization filter. Colorado National Monument preserves one of the grand landscapes of the American West. But this treasure is much more than a monument. Towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau-and-canyon panorama. Source: http://www.nps.gov/colm/index.htm Following the advice of one of my colleagues in Denver we did a small detour on our way to Moab which was well worth it. Colorado Nat’l Monument is a beautiful park, not too crowded and the views are very spectacular. Their visitor center is one of the best I have seen.

We had a Bubblers trip to my fox hole over the weekend with David Shaw. Nice weather, great light, but few foxes. It was over an hour before we saw our first fox – I was at the point of saying, “No, seriously, there ARE foxes out here.” We ultimately saw 3 foxes, albeit briefly. All were the shy foxes, not any of my regulars. One of the locals had to help us spot this one. She was in her den and only emerged briefly. She’s wolfing down some breakfast in this image. The hole she’s sitting in goes further down and connects with part of the old drainage system, allowing her to emerge at several points. This was an active den site a couple of years ago with kits being born there. It’s fox mating season now, so maybe she’s planning on using this as her birthing site as well. I’m not familiar with this vixen – notice her left ear has a notch in it. it is a way to monitor and keep track of individual foxes.
