Just finished coloring my latest piece (although I actually sketched this about 5 years ago on a city bus on the way home from art school), and it’s looking pretty good. My original thought on this as I drew it was that this guy needed a big frickin’ gun. No, wait.. a HUGE frickin’ gun! The kind that would, in no way, be able to be supported by his weight alone. In fact, the gun-to-guy weight ratio balance would be off so badly that he would be lying on his back in about a second. But, this isn’t real life, and nothing even says this is an illustration of anything from our universe so maybe he’s on another planet or something. Yeah, that’s it.. Overall, I’m happy with the way this turned out. I originally didn’t plan on adding in the smoke or spark effects, but I thought it needed something more so I started playing around with smoke and that eventually led to a much larger idea: the character seems to be literally ripping apart or on the verge of exploding. Very cool. I’m working on improving my coloring speed and overall composition, so hopefully you’ll enjoy this latest addition to my illustration/print portfolio.

SpaceKid travels the galaxy encountering the strangest creatures both strange and bizarre! Despite spending his days traveling the cosmos, all the while documenting his incredible adventures with his trusty visi-capture, amazingly the lad still manages to make it home in time for dinner – ensuring that his parents never learn of his true space faring nature. (Just ignore me…I have absolutely no idea what in the world I’m blabbing about. Too much caffeine and not enough sleep results in posting strange things on Redbubble.)

I dream in color, yes I do / My sleeping eyes enjoy the view / Subconscious mind sees every hue / Neons to pastels imbue / / Even during the darkest night / When eyes slumber after day’s sight / My dreams illuminate with light / And not just that of black and white / / I know that artists will agree / That black and white is density / Combines with colors that we see / To give us shades on color’s tree / / This fractal artwork was inspired by ongoing studies about whether we dream in color or black and white. The latest scientific study that I have read proved very interesting in it’s findings. Apparently whether we dream in color or black and white is due to cultural influences in the society that we live in. I have provided a link to the final paper on this study below, as it is quite fascinating in scope and I would encourage the curious to review it. I know that I dream in color most of the time… How about you?! / / Do We Dream in Color? – Cultural Variations and Skepticism / http://www.faculty.ucr.edu/~eschwitz/SchwitzPapers/DreamChina051031.htm / / The original is 3000×2400 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The fractal gradient was created with ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. The fractal was created as a transparency so it could be layered over the background. The background gradient was created in Photoshop, and the post-processing of layers was also done in Photoshop. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. / / / / / /
As I made my ( transitional ) drive from my future back to my past today, I listened to the Alien sounds of the album Oxygene. / From the master himself, Jean Michel Jarre. It is a sound for Earthly ears, with a message from the cosmos, to me its about the search for a new home on another world by a race that as destroyed the one they were given. The search is long and time passes slowly, the new worlds must have the thing we as a species need “Oxygene” / So their search across space may go on for eternity, for they say ” you can never go home again”. / And even when you find that other world, it still is not “home”. So I suppose MY message is…........... ’ Think about what we as a race are doing to our home world, do we really want to have to travel the stars for all eternity, searching for something we already have?................think! I wanted to create an image of what their home world was like before its destruction. So I created this one and called it “Oxygene”

As we look at the scene before us, we see many lights in the sky. / And since man first walked upon this Earth, he as always wondered what they were, those lights in the night sky. / Has he became more aware through technological advances, he sort of understood what they could be. / And even to this day he still wonders, what hides in the great blue yonder. It draws us forever to explore the vast unseen, we know the substance of it, its there before our eyes. / But what do those lights in the sky really hide from our eyes. They hide the….... Substance – of things not seen This is my entry into the challenge ” The Substance of things not seen” And of course for me it would be about the void beyond this Earth. In the far northern hemisphere of Saturn’s moon Titan, lies the future city of Ringsview. I say future city because this will not be built until man decides there is more to life than this small planet. That beyond our atmosphere lies our future Of course to do that, humanity as first to put an end to war, and step into the future with one mind, as one people. / To take the human race to the stars, to explore the lights we have looked at in the heavens for thousands of years. Art over the centuries as boldly gone where no art as gone before! Art as evolved with leaps and bounds, it as crossed a great many mediums. And it had to happen, here we have the planet Epsilon-Epsilon. The planet was purchased by one individual for the sole purpose of creating a work of art. The planet as thousands of cities and towns, all built as different architectual art forms, they are not populated, in fact there are no beings that live on the whole planet. / There is a reception center on the largest moon, the “tours” can take anywhere from 1 to 10 years to complete. The artist know as *Alienvisitor plans to purchase the entire solar system and all 13 of its planets, so one day the system itself will become the art form. This is but a small sample of said art…...the city of Flight, the architecture here is based on but not exact of his *Cities in Flight Series. Featured in Images & Ideas Group 25/07/09
