I have used the Adobe Gamma utility to calibrate my monitor. I will be getting a more advanced hardware gadget soon to do this a bit more reliably. I have been struggling lately with colour changes which happen when I convert from my working space of AdobeRGB in Photoshop to SRGB and then viewing those files in Firefox or IE. The colours seemed very much more saturated and in the case of the green particularly were not pleasant. I have been adjusting the saturations prior to saving as srgb but I wasn’t too happy doing this and it’s a bit hit and miss. I know colour management is a minefield and I don’t fully understand it but it seemed to me that if I converted to srgb within Photoshop the colours should look pretty much the same – which they do in Photoshop but not in my browser or other apps. I googled – and found this page http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html# It recommends Safari 3 – beta as the only colour managed browser (for the windows user anyway). I tried the test which appears at the top of the page and realised this is just what happens to my files. I use Firefox. So I downloaded and installed Safari 3. What a difference! My files now look as they do in Photoshop. Wonderful. Of course, they still look “wrong” to anyone not using Safari. So a plea – for anyone who would really like to see the beautiful images on Redbubble as the creator intended – please check this page out and install Safari and give it a try. Well worth it. http://www.apple.com/safari/ Give it a try if you don’t already use it. Ann

For anybody who hasn’t had a chance to check out the winners of the Mother’s day Contest held for both the Selective Coloring Group and the Childhood Group you can see them HERE. These images really evoke such warm tender feelings and a true sense of motherhood. So much inspiration went into this contest, and it was very rewarding for me as well. While you are there, take a moment and check out the rest of my website and sign up for future news and updates. It is an interactive, resourceful, and informational site aimed to educate photographers on the art and techniques of selective coloring. Also, if you have time, sign my guestbook. I would love to hear your thoughts and if you have any suggestions on making the site even more useful and interesting.

  • "Dahlia in white" featured

Yesterday, I have found that my photograph Dahlia in white became a featured work in the Simply White Group: It was a bit of surprise to me, because it apparently got much more popular than my Dahlia in pink (which I think about as a sister to the white Dahlia: same time, same place, same flower – except of the color!, same textures, same processing) posted earlier. Is it due to the color? Or just some sort of a random effect? Anyway, I definitely like to see them side by side :) Thank you very much for all your comments and favs!

Thanks so much to the moderators of Florida the Sunshine State (a terrific group) for featuring Safe in the Harbor (it’s second feature). My apologies for not thanking you earlier. It’s been over a week, I’m afraid. It is now on the second page of the featured works section. And I want to thank All the Colors of the Rainbow for featuring “Cat Portrait.” Also a repeat feature! This was just today. Safe in the harbor / Cat portrait / Thanks so very much…and I hope I’ll have more time soon for the fabulous world of art and merry participation with all you ever so fine artists! The concession stand is now closed… And with it, the thin veneer of playtime innocence. Long for the cotton candy days… spun from sticky blue skys and icecream bunny clouds. Pandemonium’s boorish box has taken the last vestiges of deception and closed them up for good. Lock, stock, and two smoking anti-aircraft tank barrels… Can we ever again return to those blissful days? Will we ever again laze under brushing willow, spinning breezy dreams that float along on warm summer air like tiny dandelion seeds to land in some mystic shaded bower? I dream that the horrors will end one day… that the concession will again open… that the darkness today will only make that glorious return all the more sweet… Or, have our hearts have been so brutally tattered and soiled that our only refuge will come with senility? Try again next season… the concession is closed until further notice. Photo for this entry HERE “Paradise Lost” ~ Concession stand in Florida © Skip Hunt

Red had worked the edge sector for some time. He wondered if the slightest vibrations of passing vehicular monstrosities might in fact be the key, and he soon deduced that eventually he might just rattle himself free from the blackened industrial abys. Ever so slightly he rattled himself unnoticed for years… Ever closer… Closer… Closer… He could smell the sweet sunshine breezes wrangling themselves inbetween the twisted crevaces… See the tips of mythic verde life strands flowing freedom as once told by the Iron Elders… Longing with all his rustic might and with every weld of his battered being… One day… he would know the truth… One day… he would bust out of the dark corrugated hell in a steely fury and scrap his way into the divine free-range light.
