Paradise found…..... Was in awe at the sunsets in Northern Mariana Islands
I took this shot on Bell Island, if you look closely at the base of the cliff you can see a natural tunnel that has been bored through the rock by the water and out to the other side. The bravest and most daring of kayakers venture into these tunnels to explore. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / /

Background Information: / Tofino is a village of about 1,650 residents on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada, located at the western terminus of Highway 4. It is located at the tip of the Esowista Peninsula, and is thus a part of Clayoquot Sound. Islands in the vicinity include Meares, Vargas and Flores. Lone Cone on Meares Island is an extinct volcano. Tofino and the nearby town of Ucluelet are the closest towns to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The settlement of Tofino first acquired the name in 1909 with the opening of the Tofino Post Office, named in association with Tofino Inlet nearby. Tofino Inlet was named in 1792 by the Spanish commanders Galiano and Valdés, in honor of Admiral Vicente Tofiño, under whom Galiano had learned cartography. A popular tourist destination in the summer, Tofino’s population swells to many times its winter size. It attracts surfers, nature lovers, campers, whale watchers, fishermen, or anyone just looking to be close to nature. In the winter it is not as bustling, however, many people visit Tofino and the west coast to watch storms on the water. Close to Tofino is Long Beach, a scenic and popular year-round destination, at the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Nearby Maquinna Marine Provincial Park, with its natural hot springs, is located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Tofino and is also a popular day-trip destination for tourists although it is only reachable by boat or float plane. “Love Rests on No Foundation ~ It is an endless ocean, with no beginning or end. Imagine, a suspended ocean, riding on a cushion of ancient secrets. All souls have drowned in it, and now dwell there. One drop of that ocean is hope, and the rest is fear.” ~ Quatrains of Rumi Plumeria Blossom on Lava Rocks / Hamoa Beach Maui Hawai`i Copyright © Sharon Mau / All Rights Reserved Featured in Natural Colour and Light group 25 December 2008 Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi This lovely Plumeria blossom floated from the tree which arches overhead as I was walking down the stone steps to the luxurious black sand beach of Hamoa, one of my favourite beaches on Maui. I was captivated with the beauty of it resting softly on the lichen blanketed lava rock and the contrasts of soft sensual beauty with the rough textures of the hardened magma. Of course I instantly stopped and photographed it. It is one of my favourites and I am happy you enjoy it

Its long pointed bracts arch with a particularly pleasing curvature. Its fan shaped clumps, up to 12 feet high, thrive as well in Hawai’i as in its native Costa Rica and Panama. Full sun, ample water, warm air, high humidity, and good soil are all it needs. However, in blooming season, March to May, is short; current research is aimed at expanding its period of availability. Rainbow heliconia resembles giant lobster claw. However, its unopened bracts form a jagged herringbone pattern, its “cheeks” are smaller and its yellow colouration is greenish rather than bright.”: Text quote from the book titled Exotic Tropicals of Hawai’i by Angela K. Kepler It is a beautiful greeting card. We have many varieties of Heliconia blooming on Maui. If you are interested in a particular variety or colour simply drop me a note and let me know. Mahalo!

Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain. Rota has diverse flora and fauna.. / Wikipedia ©2009/2010 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.
