I am going to take a moment to toot my own horn, not something I do on a regular basis. I have just received the final pdf proof for a promotional calendar for 2008 that will be distributed at the University of Missouri and throughout the world to faculty, friends, alumni, and students to increase awareness for wild tiger conservation! The calendar features only photography of yours truly throughout, and so in a sense it is like having a solo gallery show! As many conservation saavy individuals might already know, the tiger in the wild is one of the iconic symbols of endangered species worldwide, numerous organizations have been created to focus on increasing awareness on all of the tiger species worldwide and their precipitous decline towards extinction. All tiger species in the wild are endangered, some more severely than others. Several sub-species have already been lost. You can read more about the first of it’s kind “Tigers 4 Tigers” program started at the University of MIssouri by going here MizzouT4T The two images I I have posted in this message are the opening page of the inside of the calendar as well as the back page of the calendar that talks about me personally and my work. I ask that when you have time you visit the T4T page and read about the program, and if you feel so inclined offer a donation to either T4T, or any other conservation effort, globally or locally, because there is always more that needs to be done to preserve the beauty that exists in the world! Thank you all for listening to me, it is truly an honor to have been a part of this worthy project, and it is exactly the type of conservation effort that weds real on the ground work with the beauty of art that can help stem the tide of the rapid decline of magnificent creatures like the tiger in the wild! Hey everyone! I’m kind of posting here to apologise. I know quite a few people started watching me (and I’m really happy about that! =D ), probably waiting for more of my art. The thing is that at the moment, I am very busy with college assignments. I’m going through my last few weeks of classes and have to hand in my art assignments soon. Then right after that I have a couple of exams to go through still. So at the moment, I’m kind of drowning in work and sadly don’t have time to make any new art (or at least art I’d want to post on here). So I apologise! Hopefully at the end of June – begin July I should be able to come back to RedBubble with some new stuff. / I still check the site every day though, and read your lovely comments. Thanks for the support. =D Ine

I was asked by a adult education teacher to design a 10 week course on “Introduction to Digital Photography” for local college. My biggest problem will be to not overwhelm with too many tech terms that a beginner, but to keep it interesting and yes amusing enough to engage the students. I have an outline, and am building it from there.

So today was the start of my second week at uni studying a bachelor in visual communication (arts) majoring in photography. What can I say… 3 intense years to go! I’ve been introduced to the world of illustrator, and seemingly to the world of photoshop where intricate selections are mandatory… and behold, philosophy is part of my study schedule. Other than that I’m loving experimenting with the new tools I’ve been introduced to, and hopefully you will see more and more t-shirt designs that entice. More on the subject of photography, I’ve been doing some assisting work and have contacted a major production company in Sydney to get some more (fingers crossed). No camera work at uni until next semester or the one after, so unless I get some spare time, it’ll be vector t-shirts and vector/photoshop art for your viewing pleasure. Keep buying the t-shirts and feel free to send me requests as I need to practice some more, and then some, and be introduced to the world of ‘creative direction’.

/ I now have a lot of virtual contact with FlyBoy. / While searching for ‘fashion’ pictures, of the 70s and of my teenage years, I came across this man flying. / I took that with my very simple camera, beside the very new building of the Wollongong Teachers College, in 1963. / I believe this man’s name may have been Tim. / He seemed SO old! (Then!!!) / There was a limit on the ages of students who could be enrolled AND you could only be enrolled via a scholarship, which had a ‘bond’ attached, which required you, after graduating from college, to serve either 2 years in the far north-west of NSW, or 3 years elsewhere ‘in the country’ (Rather than Sydney). / We had to learn about the skills which we would teach in P.E., (Physical Education). J / Just like the other subjects, certain students then specialised in areas. Jumping up and down on a trampoline was not my thing. I went for Art and for Music. Together with another Dutch-born student, I even tried to escape (across the field, towards the then new university, and the main road, at North Wollongong, to get out of the Sports / Athletics Carnival. But the principal, Mr McGrath, rounded us up, in his car and TOOK us to the event.

To My Dear RedBubble Family, I have had a few challenges that require my immediate and captivating attention : ) / In addition to my son leaving immediately for college the day after he graduates / (3.8 gpa) high school, I will be setting up house somewhere new. My transition will take place prior to his graduation. He will be going out of state and I will miss him terribly : ( BUT, / he is a young man and must pursue his responsibilities on his own now. Suffice it to say, I am too wound up at this particular time to be artistically creative as far as graphic designs are concerned. Should the Lord place something on my heart to speak, I will share it with you. There are some fantastic works being done and I do intend on making comments when time permits : ) Please pray for me as I pray for you : ) Thank you! Brenda Oh yes, this will require me actually shutting down the p.c. : ) / Lakers Rule !!!

I found an interesting work of art at an Ann Arbor yard sale. Took me two years to figure out the creator of that pencil and ink piece: Maude McVeigh Hutchins (4 Mai 46). Maude Hutchins made her name as an artist during the 20s, 30s, & 40s. Around 1950, Maude Hutchins began a successful career as a novelist. Her themes generally regarded sexual awakening. Maude Hutchins died in 1992 aged 102. Her novels are enjoying resurgent popularity. Before 1948, Maude Hutchins had been married to lawyer Robert Maynard Hutchins for 27 years. At age 30, in 1929, Robert M. Hutchins became the youngest president ever (still) of a major American university: U of Chicago. R.M. Hutchins remained in that capacity for 21 years before becoming the director of the Ford Foundation. He initiated educational reforms, many adopted by other institutions. Hutchins (who probably could have been president) was a pacifist who ironically became the principle contractor ($400 millions worth) in the creation of the first atomic bombs; he was the only civilian outside the Pentagon that officially knew about the Manhattan Project. You may recall that the first sustained chain reaction (Enrico Fermi 1942) was initiated under the abandoned U of C football stadium. Hutchins’ U of C contracts also included operation of the Oak Ridge, TN plutonium factory (WWII). After Hiroshima, Hutchins spent the remainder of his life opposing the arms race (died 1977). My fascination with Hutchins springs from his secular philosophical view of morality. From the time of his appointment as the Dean of the Yale Law School onward (mid 20s), he grappled with society’s need for moral education. Hutchins’ pointed out that the scientific method does not give us the knowledge or wisdom for how to manage science; it is something only a moral education can achieve. Nearly all of his efforts to inculcate morality into academics (outside theological schools), and later into corporate thinking, failed. I find Hutchins philosophical view interesting because I understand that a person’s moral view is a much higher standard than one’s minimum legal responsibility; and I can see that living merely to a minimum legal responsibility will not sustain the fabric of society— yet it is the trend. The problem for morality is that it is like both gravity and the very essence of life: we all know that it exists, but none have yet quantified it scientifically.

Hi everyone! I’ve been quite inactive lately. because I had so many things to do. I have a new room in Rotterdam, because I study medicine here. It’s my first year, so everything is so new to me! Living in a big city, going to college, prepare your meal yourself everyday, being alone in your room xD.. It wasn’t that difficult to adapt to this new life, though. I’m kinda used to it now =) Hopefully, I can upload more designs soon! Maybe one today.. =)

  • 'Ourselves', extract from my college thesis, "The Flip Side".

“People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of rivers, at the vast compass of the oceans, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet, they pass by themselves without wondering” - Saint Augustine According to some, our ‘roots’ started with Adam and Eve. Others would dispute this, saying that, evolution, had more to do with how things began. I would like to share my own, light-hearted version, with both of these parties. Have you ever thought: that maybe, Adam and Eve were just taking a mud bath, that maybe, just maybe, they were just having their ‘spa’ day, and not necessarily being formed from the clay of the earth?! Maybe, Adam and Eve (and the rest of their kin), looked much like a couple of apes, because things, such as ‘razors’… hadn’t been invented yet?! How we ended up, the way we are… is not that important, to me, because I believe we will never know for sure. I believe, we, quite simply, are not meant to know. To me, it’s just part of life’s ‘design’ for us. The question of where ‘mans’ origins stem from, is one of life’s questions that, I think, could or never will be answered. I may be proved wrong, but until then, I will stick to this ‘train’ of thought. What is important is that, we were born with minds, which give us the power and choice, to decide, if this theory of mine has ‘substance’ or if it’s just full of… you know what?!
