Abstract Collage Piece on Paper
Inspiration is but a muse; and, this art has lots of it for you to use! / CREATION INFORMATION Medium: Digital Collage, Typography, Mixed Media Design. Techniques: Digital Processing in Sepia Tones w/ Typographical Design. Tools: Digital Camera, Photoshop CS2. Shooting Location: The Getty Center – Los Angeles, CA. NOTES: The woman in this creation is actually a digital image shot at The Getty and then digitally manipulated into the collage. The original art is on showcase at The Getty. It is a chalk sketch entitled “Study of a Woman Turned Toward the Left” and created by Charles-Antoine Coypel. I was very moved by the piece and was inspired to photograph it. I then wanted to share that inspiration via collage with other artists. Once again, this image was captured by myself while visiting the museum and was NOT taken from online (it has a higher resolution). You can view more information about the piece here. / ALSO AVAILABLE / Wise Words T-Shirts /

A savannah, is a tropical grassland ecosystem characterized by the trees being sufficiently small or widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of C4 grasses. Some classification systems also recognize a grassland savannah from which trees are absent. It is often believed that savannahs feature widely spaced, scattered trees, however in many savannah communities tree densities are higher and trees are more regularly spaced than in forest communities. Savannahs are also characterized by seasonal water availability, with the majority of rainfall being confined to one season of the year. Savannahs can be associated with several types of biomes. Savannahs are frequently seen as a transitional zone, occurring between forest and desert or prairie. They cover 20% of the globe not including oceans. The largest amount of Savannah is in Africa.
This is a digital poem I composed using torn newspaper, black and white acrylic paint, photographs, and photo manipulation. The background music is Liam O’Flynn’s composition, The Rolling Wave. Companion Work: /

I made those dolls many years ago and used them in many artworks. I even made a video of them singing. I have always loved matryoshka dolls, and I think they’re definitely better than Barbies.
Mixed media collage on recycled layers of old book pages for a “tip-in” page used in altered books. I have used a gold leaf pen to write “dream” on the piece in a couple of places, to outline parts of the statue, to draw a couple of symbols and put my initials SS in the corner. This collage art work has been FEATURED in the “First Things” group. :) A “tip-in page” is a separate work of art that is added or “tipped into” the pages of an altered book. It becomes a part of the altered book by either gluing it into the book, or adhering it some other way such as fanciful clips. Different artists do this in a variety of interesting ways. To find out more about altered books, google the term. I have altered several old books and gave them new life as works of art. They were destined for the trash dump, so I brought them home and altered them. They are an interesting portable portfolio of paintings, collage’ and 3D elements I have added throughout the pages. I added my signature digitally but the collage has not been digitally altered or enhanced in any way. Here’s how it looks printed on canvas: / Here’s how it looks matted & framed in black: / Here’s how the laminated print looks: /
