A few snowgums in the afternoon light at Guthega in the Snowy Mountains Australia. Other images in the series: Snowgums 2 / More winter images
A major early snow storm blanketed the Cascade Mountains. A small lake nearly froze over by winter cold offers a bit of a reflection as Mt. Rainier looms in the background capped by a lenticular cloud cap. A pristine view one can linger on if you can stand the cold.
One must suffer for your art correct? Well this might fit, I headed out this cold December dawn a year ago with temps at -5 and windchill at -30. A bit chilly and I learned that if you take a glove and grab a metal tripod leg your hand will stick at least for a few moments. I hope the image was worth it! The frozen surface of Mud Lake just after dawn one cold winter morning. The long shadows of the tree stumps making eerie lines across the ice and skiff of snow on top.

The twilight ,that special time of the day with a beautiful moonSomebody told me this would make a great Christmas card… / /
This was taken up at Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland UK – this is a photographer battling against the wind – you have no idea how cold it was that day :)
The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / NautilusBlue / / nominated this image to be showcased in the group Pay It Forward and this is what she had to say… / / Ice Breaker / by Kevin Kroeker / I think it is an outstanding image with great composition ( great leading lines) with lots of drama and the colours are amazing . It shows us the harshness of the climate. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
Its winter! YAY!!! Thanks to PotUSA for the title inspiration!! self portrait
I was having fun experimenting one night on our street as I loved how the lights reflected off the snow on our street, these log homes with big windows really allowed this scene to come out. Tried and tried over and over to give it that festive feeling around X-mas, anyhow, here`s the result. / Canon XT, sigma 17-35mm 2.8 over 15 sec

The image has been created as an alternative to the popular and greatly exaggerated theory of global warming and its consequences. Since global warming activists predict a dramatic change of the planet’s surface in the nearest future, the Ice Age Premonition portrays our society in the new Ice Age. / Ice Age – A cold period marked by episodes of extensive glaciations alternating with episodes of relative warmth. Any geologic period during which thick ice sheets cover vast areas of land. Such periods of large-scale glaciations may last several million years and drastically reshape surface features of entire continents. A number of major ice ages have occurred throughout the Earth’s history; the most recent periods were during the Pleistocene Epoch. There have been at least four major ice ages in the Earth’s past. The last glacial period ended about ten thousand years ago. / Surrealism art prints / Digital art prints / Fantasy digital art wallpapers

As I shot this particular image, the sun was just appearing across the lake on the trees in the distance. It played hide and seek the whole time I was out. Fortunately, the winds were calm … so the branches were filled with snow. It was a dreary and grey day today. The fog was so thick so I decided to go for a drive to one of the lighthouses. This is an old outhouse hanging over the edge of the cliff next to the lighthouse. This is what the lighthouse keeper would use to scratch that itch… lol. It’s probably about 100 feet to the ocean straight below. / / What you can’t see in the image is that behind the outhouse there is nothing but open ocean for the next 3000 miles. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / Canon 400D/XTI / 3 Shots. Best on Full Size This adorable female cardinal perched outside my kitchen French doors (in Maryland) during The Big Blizzard of ‘09 yesterday, December 19, 2009, clearly a bit kerflustered (thanks again Renee Dawson for that perfect word!) by all the snow and wind. But just to her side was is a huge bird feeder, filled to the brim with tasty goodies for her and her family. Focal distance 300mm. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/20, aperture f/9, exp -.33, iso 1000. Spot metering. Post processing included work in levels and curves. Nothing fancy … no textures.
Best on Full Size This is Sadie, our 11-year old Samoyed, in her element. A northern breed, she’s never happier than when she’s chin deep in the cold white stuff!!! This shot was taken the day after the Washington – Baltimore area’s December ‘09 blizzard, December 20, 2009. Camera used was the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, UV filter attached. Shutter speed was 1/800, aperture f/14, exp. 0.00, and iso 800, white balance auto, focal length 80mm. Post work included levels and curves and slight cropping in Photoshop. “AKC MEET THE BREEDS®: Samoyed / A hardy and eager worker, the Samoyed is known for black lips that curl slightly at the corners into the “Samoyed smile.” Bright and alert, he likes to stay busy and enjoys participating in agility, herding, weight pulling, sledding, pack hiking, conformation shows and more! His heavy, weather resistant coat is suitable for very cold climates and should be pure white, white and biscuit, cream or biscuit. A Look Back / An ancient working breed, the Samoyed is very close to the primitive dog – no mixture of wolf or fox runs through the breed’s gene pool. He was developed by the Samoyede people of Siberia. They used the dogs for herding reindeer, hunting and hauling sledges as well as guard work. The breed was cherished by these people – they even allowed them to sleep in their tents – because they depended on the dogs for their survival.” Many thanks to the AKC for the above info!! http://ih3.redbubble.net/work.4390683.1.mtd,375×360,w,s,U25vd3Bsb3c=,ffffff.jpg
