  • Morning rainbow, Jokulsarlon, Iceland Iceland / Belgium / Italy / France / Hungary / Spain / Sri Lanka / USA / London / Portraits / Other Jokulsarlon is a glacial lake that meets the sea in Iceland. One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. Note: The size if this work was increased using Photoshop CS2. / Best size being around the 50cm wide.

The snow last weekend was almost continual but light … creating an amazing, fantasy land of subtle color and soft light. As I shot this particular image, the sun was just appearing across the lake on the trees in the distance. It played hide and seek the whole time I was out. Fortunately, the winds were calm … so the branches were filled with snow. • Beautiful Bella appears from her ‘nest’ in the hayloft to confront the snow filled morning. Taking her time to survey her domain before descending the iron ladder to come in for her breakfast – whilst she ponders she has acquired a dusting of snowflakes. She sleeps inside a large tin trunk in the corner of the loft – it is filled with a soft fleece blanket and surrounded by straw and hay from days long gone – it is her place of solitude and retreat from visitors and the other cats! It’s hard to believe that she was so ill just a short time ago – it is just wonderful to see her so well and happy again!

  • I was having my coffee this morning on the balcony while watching the rain and it gave me an idea so here it is! This was taken of the rain coming down on the balcony balustrade with the clouds in the background. I know that there are lots of amazing captures of splashes here on RB but this image really wasn’t about the splash, to me, it was more about the capture of morning rain. Best viewed large :o) Nikon D200 / 18-200mm lens, 5.6f / exposure 1/320 / processed in RAW

  • It was a dreary and grey day today. The fog was so thick so I decided to go for a drive to one of the lighthouses. This is an old outhouse hanging over the edge of the cliff next to the lighthouse. This is what the lighthouse keeper would use to scratch that itch… lol. It’s probably about 100 feet to the ocean straight below. / / What you can’t see in the image is that behind the outhouse there is nothing but open ocean for the next 3000 miles. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / Canon 400D/XTI / 3 Shots. • Best on Full Size This adorable female cardinal perched outside my kitchen French doors (in Maryland) during The Big Blizzard of ‘09 yesterday, December 19, 2009, clearly a bit kerflustered (thanks again Renee Dawson for that perfect word!) by all the snow and wind. But just to her side was is a huge bird feeder, filled to the brim with tasty goodies for her and her family. Focal distance 300mm. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/20, aperture f/9, exp -.33, iso 1000. Spot metering. Post processing included work in levels and curves. Nothing fancy … no textures.
