Early winter morning on the Avon River, Western Australia. Canon EOS 20D.
Aerial view of a drying river, dead trees and a frozen field, the bleached colours of a land gripped in a cold drought.
A peculiar winter storm started with rain, moved on to sleet, then snow, leaving everything covered in glistening ice. The beauty of it gives this long winter a sliver lining. Photo was taken at Raymond Ridge Park in Madison, WI, with Nikon Coolpix L3.
I went to a friend’s ranch in Colorado this morning just out of Monument, El Paso County. Took a few snaps when I arrived. It was minus something ridiculous so my fingers almost snapped off and the lens fogged but I’m pretty happy with the result.

steaming fumeroles with the mists of dawn, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA the burned tree in the foreground shows what most of the trees farther back look like. they are remnants of the tremendous naturally caused burn of 1988, when more than 300,000 hectares went up in flames. as you can see, it has taken 20 years for the reforesting process to reach this stage. nikon D200

Waiting for the Sunrise I made this shot down from the Hochrindl, Carinthia. The clouds where approximately in the hight of 1561m. In the background you can see the mountain range Karawanken. It’s the natural border between Slovenia and Austria. / The picture is a HDRi out of four images. Nothing special, but I want to share it with you. This was a great day. Got up at 4 o’clock. Arived at the bottom of the “mountain” at half past 5 (it’s freezing cold in winter at this time). The first thing I saw were two falling stars and the most beautiful night sky I have ever seen. The climb was hard. Too early for me and I was lazy the last months. / I got on the peak at 7 o’clock and I had to wait till sunrise. What a feeling. In front of you the sky gets brighter and in your back you can still see the stars. While I waited I have drunk tea and took some shots. This is one of them. Lake Windermere, Lake District. UK / Christmas Eve, 2008 As the curtains open, embrace the performance… A last minute overnight stay in the picturesque setting of Lake Windermere gave us the opportunity to test the early winter’s morning air and catch the first rays of light across the cold still water… ...all before some Gold Award winning sausages for Breakfast on this memorable Christmas Eve. To savour the taste of these sumptuous sausages for yourself you’ll have to check into the Eastbourne Guest House on Biskey Howe Road for the night… definately recommended. The owner of the guest house, who had just taken over, asked if we could write a review for him to gather some business… this should do for starters!
Torksey Castle is a wonderful old Tudor ruin. Dating from the 16th century it was the manor house of the Jermyn family. Little is now left except the grand facade, with it’s lofty towers, and aspect over the River Trent. There are very few alternate angles that look quite as good, so it was a case of taking the ‘classic’ view and trying to do it better! Luckily for me, the very heavy frost and low raking sunrise enhanced an already magical location.
Rising Star This was taken on the same day like Waiting for the sunrise. I think only 20 minutes later. / It’s not the best view but I loved how the snow turned red during the sunrise. Only a few minutes and everything was over. It’s a single shot. I worked with the gradation curve, the contrast and the brightness. I hope you like it. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / This is no stock-picture.
