This Winter Tree – is a strong tree holding back the winter untill spring brings with it – new life.
Cold Poem / Cold now. / Close to the edge. Almost / unbearable. Clouds / bunch up and boil down / from the north of the white bear. / This tree-splitting morning / I dream of his fat tracks, / the lifesaving suet. I think of summer with its luminous fruit, / blossoms rounding to berries, leaves, / handfuls of grain. Maybe what cold is, is the time / we measure the love we have always had, secretly, / for our own bones, the hard knife-edged love / for the warm river of the I, beyond all else; maybe that is what it means the beauty / of the blue shark cruising toward the tumbling seals. In the season of snow, / in the immeasurable cold, / we grow cruel but honest; we keep / ourselves alive, / if we can, taking one after another / the necessary bodies of others, the many / crushed red flowers. A snowy winter path in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. Almost a black and white image, however it’s full colour, as much as an overcast sky allows in the winter The Prairies / frost / Winter / Parks / Monochromatic images
Beautiful horse running in a field today…
Taken April 14, 2006 with a Fuji E-510 (as shown in the reflection :P). I took this while I was on top of Sulfer Mountain in Banff National Park (Banff, Alberta, Canada) during the winter. There was a little cabin, and it’s interior can be seen inside my reflection in the window. Meanwhile the outdoor activity outside the cabin is reflected around my body. Looking back at this it sorta reminds me of the painting by Edouard Manet “A Bar at the Folies-Bergere” where the world the bar tendor is looking down on is reflected in the mirror behind her. Although not intended, many stories can be interpreted from this; and whatever that maybe, I’ll leave that up to the viewer :) This work has been featured in: / Weekly Them Challenges Actually it’s a funny story; I entered my work into that group to enter it into the Cameras challenge, and it was approved only after the voting had already started. Seeing as this particular group approves work based on the challenges it’s a bit strange that happened. Well I decided to let that go; it wasn’t a big deal. But two days after the challenge closed this work got featured among with the top ten :o)

Taking a short walk in the hills just out of the village Libverda Spa (Lazne Libverda), I was fascinated by the wind playing with snow, and by the dark leafless trees contrasting with the snowy tracks on the road. February 2002. Canon EOS 500N, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, levels, convert to BW, sharpening, crop. This is the same locality where I made the photograph Landscape around Libverda Spa, Czech Republic five and half years later:

Taken about 45mins. after dawn looking to the Northern horizon with an incoming tide rolling up onto the East beach at Lossiemouth, Moray Scotland.
