  • THE SUBJECT: / A Boiga irregularis (Brown Tree Snake) all coiled and ready for action was only centimetres (inches) away from my lens as I crouched down to make this close-up. / Yes it IS poisonous but it is one of the smaller rear fanged varieties of snake so it would not be able to give me a bite. They are a nocturnal species and can become aggressive when disturbed. / [These are the snakes which made their way to Guam during WII and are still causing havoc to that island’s environment.] THE LOCATION: / Once a year the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club meets up with the local North Coast Herpetological Group for a day of photography and a BBQ. The event is called ‘Snakes Alive!’ / They bring the snakes and lizards, we take photographs for them and then we all have a BBQ. A really great day for all. Our Club President then collects our images on a CD and gives it to their Society. A real mutually beneficial arrangement. THE MAKING OF ‘Coiled for Action (Boiga irregularis – Brown Tree Snake)’: / Fuji S5500: High resolution jpg, Macro, 1/125sec @ f/2.9, ISO100, Hand held. / Photoshop CS. • I’m proud to report that this image is used as the cover-image for the 7-inch vinyl ‘Scars’ record by the Canadian punk/hardcore band called Damages / . / This is a fully detailed photo of a real piece of fencing in Weston-super-Mare. I couldn’t resist the paradoxically soft, curvy, lazy loops of unfriendly sharp razor-wire, sitting above the rigidly regular fence! I adjusted the image a little to keep that dark, dark background. / . / Thank you to the Just Lines Group and the Don’t Fence Me In Group for featuring this photo in 2008! / . / Many thanks to the Shapes & Patterns Group for featuring this photo, on July 9th 2009. / . / / .
