The Sacré-Coeur Basilica at Montmartre which was built at the end of the 19th century at the top of the Montmartre hill in Paris.

One of my favourite shots from my ‘film days’ – it does okay as a scanned negative as well. Great place, Sacre Coeur – the vibe of the Montmartre area is just infectuous, definitely one of the nicest places I visited in Paris.

Coeur d’Alene Lake is a very large lake, one that you do not want to get stuck on when a storm is coming. My father and I were fishing on this wonderful lake in Northern Idaho when an unexpected storm rolled over the top of us as we were crossing the middle of the lake. In a matter of minutes it changed from a clear blue sky to a pitch black storm showering us with rain and lightning. Swells nearly knocking over the small fishing boat. Luckily we able to cross the lake and get to a private little boat dock. The waves were nearly throwing the boat on top of the dock. After getting the boat tied up we had the pleasure of standing in the rain for the next 20 minutes without anything to shelter us from the beating rain. There is a Native American legend that says if you catch a butterfly and tell it your wish and let it go, the Great Spirit will know. In the Greek language the word “psyche” means both soul and butterfly, and the goddess Psyche was the wife of Cupid. And there is the “butterfly effect” and it is only real if you believe it to be so, very much like for “every action there is a reaction” and everything may end in chaos. One thing for sure the butterfly dances and flies for hundreds of miles before it dies, a fleeting moment in your time of something so beautiful, that you rarely notice that they are dying off, and flying less and less. Papillon du Coeur is a butterfly from the heart. “Hell where is my butterfly net…I gotta catch me one of those butterfly critters before they all die!” / Please take notice butterflies are dying and think why (?). / See more stuff at: montdragon /

I used to do lots of pen and ink work and then I started doing colourful “bendy” buildings. Pen and ink takes me longer (much longer sometimes) than colour work, but I thought it was time I did another. I took a chance and drew one of my favourite Paris views … but I used a subtle form of my “bendy buildings” style for a lot of the picture. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOOKS BETTER ENLARGED. This photograph was taken with film in front of Sacre Coeur in 1977. I decided to try some of my new-found texture effect under some old scanned slides. After doing this in black and white, I turned it to sepia.

Sacre Coeur, Paris. The amazingly original basilica is located in Montmartre, leading to the highest point of Paris city. First constructed in 1875, it was not completed until 1914, due to a problematic law system that almost stopped construction entirely. Only saved by a loophole, construction finally continued to the end. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would normally like to, but the climb to the top of the tower was worth it for the incredible view of the city below. Original shot layered twice, with 3 textures, colour altering of each layer, blending of layers, further colour altering and an omni light effect.
