Sulphur crested cockatoos having a snack
This beautiful sulphur crested cockatoo came to visit this morning, to enjoy the flowers of the Robinia tree. He was actually pulling the flowers off, having a great time, destroying more than he was eating! Nevertheless, a wonderful Australian native bird.
Managed to Catch this Cockatoo on approach to land on the closest branch, whilst looking at me.

This is our Galah, Cocky ( yes an original name indeed!!! LOl !! ) We have had her for 23 going on 24 years. I found her while I was walking our dog when I was 16 ( and yes now you can figure out how old I am! ). She hates having her picture taken and it is rare she keeps still long enough for me to get a descent image but this one not too bad.
Cockatoos in flight by the Murrumbidgee River. / This photo was one of those lucky shots, that keen people like us take, while driving home along a dirt road, with the camera out of the car window, clicking. I just love where I live. Cockatoos are part of our daily life here. They are very vocal and noisy and nosey. We call them the “bikies of the bird world” and they have some amusing and sometimes infuriating habits. For instance, they sometimes take it into their heads to snap off the flowers in my garden. But they only do one colour at a time. One day…they will bite off all the yellow flowers. The next day, it might be all the purple ones. It’s as if they play games all the time. A big brass eagle on a marble table in our front garden deters them from chopping flowers, they never eat them ….just bite their heads off and leave them on the ground! Anywhere we go up the river, they go ahead, either as guides or to warn the bush animals of our approach- I’m never sure which. But you have to forgive them all their naughtiness when you see a gang of them in flight…they are just marvellous….winging, wheeling and screeching.
Caught this Cockatoo in landing mode at the bird feeder in my backyard. He looked a bit like a superhero to me with his ‘cape’ flowing behind him. His crest was a bit tattered and missing some feathers, suggesting he may have been in some scrapes with other males.
