They’re everywhere… and they’ve got an agenda! (Hee, hee! This design is certainly proving to be popular!)
The two most common pest cockroaches are not from Australia. The larger of the two, the American Cockroach, is equipped with long antennae that enable it to sniff out any food scraps. Interestingly, this cockroach is not actually from America – it’s from Africa. Jack lives in my old fish tank with other insect friends, I actually thought he was an Australian native Cockroach but found out he’s not. Jack loves to hang upside down on his favourite tree waiting for his bread crumbs. / The tank is made up especially for insects.

Characterized by a steely blue-black exoskeleton, this roach has colonized every place on Earth where humans live, come, and go. A lot of my fascination with insects revolves around the structure and reflectivity of insect wings and exoskeletons. This illustration was originally published in BackHome Magazine, 1993.
