  • Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Flying Machine / by Karin Taylor / from the ‘Inspired Series’ / / Mixed Media / ink, chalk pastel, charcoal, acyrlic, mediums / silver, gold, bronze and rose metallic acrylics / adobe photoshop My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

  • 09:37 Sunday morning. The static display of the F-22 Raptor is just screaming to be photographed. Decided to break a few rules here and only took a shot of the F-22’s office. What an incredible plane! The flight demo later on was just stunning as usual. Taken at the 2009 Airpower Over Hampton Roads Airshow at Langley Air Force Base, VA. I just love the lighting in this shot.

  • This aerial shot of the heart-shaped confluence of glacial flows was taken above the Kaskawulsh Glacier in the Kluane National Park area of the Yukon, Canada. It was shot on 31 August 2008 while I was a passenger aboard an Icefields Discovery Flight with Andy Williams in the pilot’s seat. I only had a few seconds to take this view as I was shooting towards the light, but I composed the shot carefully to compensate for glare. I was using two cameras, a Pentax K100D with my 18-125mm lens and a Pentax K200D with my 70-300mm lens. This was taken with the K100D, through the cockpit perspex. This unusual aspect is the result of some great flying by a very experienced pilot, because the focal length was a mere 34mm. The shot has not been cropped or post-edited in any way. F5.6, 1/2000 sec, ISO 200, focal length 34mm. Featured in MADE BY NATURE group, May 2009. Featured in AT THE EDGE group, June 2009. Featured in VANISHING POINTS, August 2009. Featured in FROM THE COCKPIT, December 2009.

  • The Cockpit of the beautifully restored and still airworthy B-17G called “Liberty Belle”. What a treat to have finally been able to see the entire interior of this plane. It is amazing how deceivingly small and cramped it is. I cannot even imagine to fly in one with FLAK going off all around and fighter planes trying to shoot you down, with no climate control system whatsoever. A couple of veterans that flew on B-17’s in WWII were at the airport, got to sign the Pilot’s Logbook and shared some of their harrowing stories, including having to endure temperatures at -30F. Amazing, simply amazing. At first I found the 2 pairs of gloves on the “dash” a little distracting, but I really like them there now. Best viewed in Large. / / This is an HDR image created from a sigle RAW file using ReDynaMix. Image was further post-processed in CS3. Taken with Nikon D300 and Tokina 12-24mm lens.
