  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Meet Michael Mitchell Whilst travelling around Cape York Peninsula (May 2008), I had the great honour to meet Michael Mitchell and camp with him and his Uncle Dave at Cockatoo Creek, Overland Telegraph Track, Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland. This photo was taken before Michael crossed Cockatoo Creek. To Read more go to: Cape_York_Adventure_-_2008 ============================================= / Michael left the “Tip” of Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland on the 5th of May 2008, to raise $1M to support the Cancer Council’s lifesaving cancer research, education programs to help detect and prevent cancers, and support services for Australians in great need. He has now completed his walk to South Point, Wilson’s Promontory, Victoria, arriving on Sunday 3rd May. A crowd of about sixty were present to welcome him as he took the last steps of the 6,000km trek from North to South. ============================================= / 100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of “Meet Michael Mitchell” will be donated to “thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk” for the Cancer Council. His treks have included The Australian Alps Walking Track from Walhalla in Victoria to Canberra in the year 2000, raising money for St Vincent’s Hospital Cancer Services in Melbourne. Michael has been teaching at Catholic Regional College, North Keilor, Victoria, since 1992. / Apart from teaching, Michael has taken on a series of challenges over time. He has coached Australian Rules Football at both senior and junior levels. / It is in the sport of cricket Michael has been most prominent having coached a number of senior cricket clubs in Melbourne in various competitions. / Most notably, Michael held the position of senior coach of Hawthorn Monash University Cricket Club in the elite Victorian Premier Cricket Competition. Michael is married to Marg and has a stepson, Daniel a recently qualified electrician. Marg’s support, encouragement, and understanding have been pivotal to Michael’s pursuit of bringing the walk together. Michael invites you to join him in realizing his dream of raising $1,000,000 to aid the fight against cancer in Australia.

We had the opportunity to camp overnight with Michael and his Uncle Dave at Cockatoo Creek, Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland.
