I wish I were an artist. / to live in dark corners of beautiful cities. / music to coat my ears and beat my heart…...
Wishing I were more gifted in the arts, I felt as though I was missing out on a lifestyle that would light a spark inside of me…
In a strange and beautiful place / lay a city of silhouettes / in a land that time forgets / in this place / blurred faces / spoke in secret …

Leadenhall Market is a covered market in the City of London, located in Gracechurch Street. The market dates back to the fourteenth century. It is open from 07:00-late Monday to Friday, and sells fresh food; among the vendors there are cheesemongers, butchers and florists. Originally a meat, game and poultry market, it stands on what was the centre of Roman London. The ornate roof structure, painted green, maroon and cream, and cobbled floors of the current building, designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones (who was also the architect of Billingsgate and Smithfield Markets), make the building a tourist attraction. It was used to represent the area of London near The Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It is also popular among local city workers. I was in the area photographing the Gherkin and the Lloyds buildings and came across Leadenhall Market totally by accident. I had never heard about it before and it was a great accidental find.

This is the old cobbled track to the Pennine village of Heptonstall. It’s very steep and seems to go on forever. Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes lived in Heptonstall are are buried in the graveyard there.

Cobblestone street in historic Zheravna, Bulgaria.
A beautiful cobbled street near my home. It reminds me of something from a Charles Dickens story… Very romantic! :)
The Grand Place or Grote Markt is the central square of Brussels. The giant building to the left is the Hotel de Ville or Town Hall. Opposite and partially lit up in blue is the museum. The square dates from the 12th century and plays home to many of the country’s best baroque guildhalls, adorned with masses of gold. On the right hand side, you can just see lights that were being shone into the sky that night. Brussels, Belgium. Best viewed large! Thank you to all who stop by to have a look, it’s much appreciated, as are your comments! Copyright © Lesley Williamson 2009
