  • This is a section of the Elbow River near my home that straightens out, and you can see clear to the stones at its bottom, glittering under the water like cobblestones. I converted the original to IR in Photoshop, because the clouds that day were just too interesting not to try it.

  • With a little grain and tonal tweaking, this accurately represents the grey claustrophobic gritty urban life of the street corner in central Aberdeen. Got to love cobbled-stone roads… A long exposure taken on the Shen Hao using Ilford Delta-100 film.

  • St Michael’s Mount, is the jewel in Cornwall’s crown. This, the most famous of Cornwall’s landmarks, has a fascinating history, is steeped in both legend and folklore, has stunning panoramic views across Mounts Bay to Lands End and The Lizard, boasts a picturesque harbour and has a spectacular castle, complete with magestic gardens. The Mount is a complete family day out, with quite literally something for everyone.

  • Did you know that when the Romans built their roads, they dug right down to the bed to the bedrock and then built their road up from there? That’s why our roads today need to be rebuilt every so many decades in North America, yet you can still walk along the same streets as people who lived over three thousand yeas ago did in Europe.

  • Taken in the very atmospheric Santiago de Compostela. It’s cobblestoned streets and ancient architecture will be sure to impress even the most jaded travellers.

  • The fast pace of Manchester captured with the black cabs racing past, with Kendals department store in the background. Taken with a Nikon D80 at f13

  • An impression of the Beguinage in the Belgian city of Leuven. A beguinage was a community of unmarried woman who took several semi-religious vows (chastity and humility) but notably no vow of poverty. Their vows also did not last a lifetime and they could leave the beguinage whenever they wanted. They lived together in semi-closed neighbourhoods outside the town walls or at least outside the centre of town. They had their own houses (or shared a larger house among several women) and made a living by handwork or sometimes aquired some fortune by trading. Their origins are not entirely clear. Perhaps they originated as a protest against the openly frivolous lifestyle of medieval clergy. Another hypothesis links their origins to a lack of men due to the crusades and the wars that plagued the Europe of the high Middle Ages. Whatever their origins, they eventually developed into succesfull independant comunities.

  • The setting sun framed by the fish monsters that guard the Scottish Government quayside…

  • Taken in Halifax, Yorkshire, in the same place as Bill Brandt’s famous photo ‘Snicket’. Unfortunately currently full of weeds; I’ll have to revisit in the winter. Single shot processed three times using Lightroom 2 and then HDR processed using Photomatix 3 and converted to B&W in Lightroom 2. Taken with my Sony Alpha 700 and Sigma 10-20mm lens.

  • Taken at the Apprentice House at Quarry Bank Mill Cheshire National Trust Property. This fern just sticking out from under a table against the wall just caught my attention. It was just in the coutyard of the Apprentice house at the back of the kitchen. The Apprentice house was where the children lived and cared for who worked in Cotton the Mill along side the house. I liked the different textures with the Bricks, wood table and Fern mixed in with the damp cobbles as it was raining when we came out of our tour of the house. Nikon D90 and Nikor 18-105vr Lens Focal length 41 / F/. 9 / Exposure1/320 sec / ISO 1600 Hand Held and on P setting, worked in Tonal Contrast from Nikon Efex pro 3

  • Tea garden alley in Tamil Nadu, India.
