  • The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. Belmont Park, Mission Beach, CA. / Riding this coaster for the first time in late 1976, I was unaware that it would be closed within weeks due to structural and safety concerns, though the park and coaster were clearly well worn. / The ride first opened on July 4, 1925 and survived many tough times until the park fell into disrepair and both were closed. I took this photo/slide –and a few others I’ll be adding – in Winter 1981 when the future of Belmont Park and its roller coaster was uncertain due to fires and neglect. / Once a demolition date for the coaster was set in the late 1980s, a group of concerned citizens succeeded, amazingly, in drawing attention to the ride’s condition and interesting developers in its restoration and in 1990, the Giant Dipper reopened. The Belmont Park rollercoaster is one of only two seaside coasters remaining at theme parks in California; the other ride – also called the Giant Dipper – is located at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk park just south of San Francisco. The Belmont Park Giant Dipper is now a designated National Historic Landmark. Best viewed large. March 2009.

  • AS IS. This is the wood and metal frame from a pretty good sized roller coaster in our old local amusement park-Chippewa Lake-in Medina County,Ohio. It has been abandoned and neglected by “now” private property owners now for over 25+ years. My husband and I were over investigating what little we could see through the large metal-industrial type fencing. It was sad-old rotted, worn and rusted rides-just true neglect. NOW there is a new law in place that is turning the lake and Parkway BACK into a public access area and recently it has been noted that they are BEGINNING to clean out the Parkway area and hopefully restore it to a large degree for the public as a whole to restore. I will be checking in on this “renovation” and keep posting up-date photos on it, as a whole. So-hope you enjoy this little peek into the past.-Chippewa Lake, Ohio. A really GREAT Place!

  • Brace yourself for a tsunami of thrills on one of the UK’s tallest log flumes – Tidal Wave! Thrill seekers who ride Tidal Wave can kiss dryness goodbye, experiencing a heart-stopping 85ft plunge into the blue, producing the tallest wall of water this side of a squally North Sea. This is one water ride where satisfaction, not just a serious drenching, is guaranteed! Taken with Fuji Finepix S100FS
