  • Happy New Year everyone! This shot was taken at the Sunshine Coast just before Christmas 2007….well it’s an old shot isn’t it. Taken with my Canon 5D and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens. No Filter has been used but I did some fake HDR processing (single shot) using Dynamic Photo HDR. It’s a fun program and a great alternative to Photomatix.

  • Full moon to the left…airport to the right, a nugget in the sea and a sprinkled sky 13 Sec Exposure / Focal Length 16.0 mm / F6.3

  • Taken on a gale force tide with winds offshore gusting at 40 mph /

  • The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

  • This berg was as big as a house! We were bobbing around in a little lifeboat so we could be close to these and get some photos. Our main ship, the Skorpios III, although happy to plough through ice flows would not venture closer than 1 kilometre to the glacier face. The glacier in the background is the Pope Pio XI, the largest glacier (I think) in South America. Southern Patagonia, Chile.

  • These two seastacks just south of Haystack rock are known as the “Haystack Needles.” This picture was taken just as the sun dipped beneath the horizon. As the tide retreated and left a thin layer of water, I was able to capture this reflection in the beach. Cannon Beach, a city in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States, is an tourist resort destination, popular in Pacific Northwest located on highway 101. In 1846, a cannon from the US Navy schooner Shark washed ashore just north of Arch Cape, a few miles to the south of Elk Creek, the current Cannon Beach. The schooner was wrecked while attempting to cross the Columbia Bar, also known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific” because of the danger of the bar. The beach was renamed “Cannon Beach.”

  • The Petrified Forest, Cape Bridgewater, Victoria, Australia. There are a number of theories about how this surreal landscape of calcified sediment was formed. One of these is that a forest was smothered by a large sand dune and water seeping down through the sand formed a crust of sandstone on the outside of the tree trunks. This process decayed the organic matter, leaving behind the ‘petrified trunks’. Another theory says that they are Rhizoconcretions-calcrete structures caused by the filling of hollows in an ancient sand dune system. The close spacing between them suggests to me that they were not trees – but an ancient petrified forest sounds more romantic and the name has become entrenched over time perpetuating perhaps a myth.
