The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

This is for Mike, one of the weather guys on the Cocos Islands. Everyday we would ask him what the forecast was, and everyday he would reply “Mostly fine, chance of a shower”! I guess this was the “chance of a shower” bit! Mike is a great guy with lots of wonderful stories from his time spent living all around Australia.

This berg was as big as a house! We were bobbing around in a little lifeboat so we could be close to these and get some photos. Our main ship, the Skorpios III, although happy to plough through ice flows would not venture closer than 1 kilometre to the glacier face. The glacier in the background is the Pope Pio XI, the largest glacier (I think) in South America. Southern Patagonia, Chile.

The mid West Australian coast around Kalbarri is particularly rugged and the constant action of wind, waves, and tides over many millions of years have created several stunning coastal gorges as well as three or four amazing creations. This bridge is one such creation and is only visible at low tide. Kalbarri is a popular fishing cum holiday township 150 kms north of Geraldton and getting on for 600 kms north of Perth. As well as it’s coastal gorges it is also famed for some stunning river gorges

Another shot from the edge of the rocks at Narrabeen facing the incoming tide.. I love the way the water swirls around through the rocks and looks like fog with the longer exposures. EXIF / Date: 17/09/2008 / Time: 6:29am / Aperture: f/22 / Shutter: 1.8 seconds

Coastal village in the middle of nowhere on an island off the coast of West Papua. The locals who live here are caretakers of an ancient (and eerie) burial site – Badwa, The Place of Heroes. Famous warriors and chieftains have their bones packed into hollowed out logs and have their remains interred in various limestone cliffs and caverns in the surrounding area and islands. I felt very privileged to be given a tour…..
