The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to came back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. I am really surprised that this image actually worked due to the extreme wind gusts that blew up just on sunset. I had to shield the tripod with my body to take this to make sure my camera wasn’t blown over. I like this image for its contrast of the impending storm above the jetty and the purity of the water below, kind of reminds me of life. I’d sooner stay below, but sometimes you have to stick your head up to see what’s coming! The white water was achieved by stacking my Cokins to give me a 5 stop ND Grad, only photoshopping here is a slight bump in contrast and saturation with curves. This berg was as big as a house! We were bobbing around in a little lifeboat so we could be close to these and get some photos. Our main ship, the Skorpios III, although happy to plough through ice flows would not venture closer than 1 kilometre to the glacier face. The glacier in the background is the Pope Pio XI, the largest glacier (I think) in South America. Southern Patagonia, Chile.

For me summer holiday memories are all about bare feet, the sea, the smell of aerogard and barbeques, and long days and warm nights often spent in a caravan park by the ocean. This piece is about all of that, but I also wanted to infuse it with a bit of darkness and mystery …Holiday villages are so full of life and colourful characters by day, but at night when all have gone to bed and secured their temporary little homes, they can be quite strange and creepy…

The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk in Sydney’s eastern suburbs is one of the most popular pasttimes for both locals and tourists. Each day hundreds of people stroll, jog or run along the route which has a permanent view of the ocean and passes through the beaches of Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly as it meanders south. The Bondi to Tamarama stretch also hosts the famous Sculpture By The Sea exhibition. There are many prominent lookout points along the walk to cater for the throngs of visitors wanting to take home a photo souvenir; but every now again you spot a new vantage point, such as this one which I noticed early one morning as the sun emerged from the ocean. Elephant Rocks, William Bay National Park, Western Australia (near Denmark) This national park is one of my favourite places on Earth. I was lucky to visit recently with my sister, climbing around the rocks and beaches for hours. Only we had to share it with a few snakes that were making the most of the spring sunshine!
