I took this on a recent trip to Brighton, and got up early so I could catch some cool light, and the dynamics of what was a very rough sea… well… comparitively. Brighton Pier is one of the classic 19th century piers in the UK, amusements on the end, kiss me quick hats for sale and so on… Black and white has given the picture an edge over the colour version….

On a moody Spring evening, dense but scattered clouds roll across the bay threatening to open up and pour on anything that falls their path. The setting sun casts its light across the clouds making them glow in a way that makes them appear to be on fire. The stunning colour of the sand comes up through the shallow water in unusual blues and greens while at the same time mixing with the oranges and reds of the sky.

This yellow dory was tied to the wharf for the winter. The boat launch had quite a steep angle to it… you can see the ocean far below, so the dory was secured with these blue ropes.I loved the contrast between the yellow boat and the blue ropes holding it securely. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / laminated print / /

Back to my favourite spot to catch first light reflecting off of the Causeway beams. As the sun rises this side of the Causeway is often highlighted, showing the features and grain of the timbers. The Causeway joins the Victor Harbor mainland with Granite Island. As many of you know this spot is a regular of mine as many years ago we followed my fathers wishes and spread his ashes alongside this structure, his favourite fishing spot!!! Quite a bold and stormy sky in the background for this one which seems to complement the foreground highlights. Canon 400D, HDR – 2 shot merge in Photomatix.

The Beachport Jetty in the Limestone Coast, the second longest in South Australia. The jetty is currently closed for repairs with most of the upper structure being replaced. The railway tracks and handrails have been removed and I believe the rails will be back up in time or the Christmas Holiday rush when the towns population goes from 450 up to about 5,000!!!! A rare chance to get a shot like this before the repairs are finished. Three shot stitch in Photoshop CS3. Canon 400D 18/55 with CIR Polarising filter.

Under the pier at Cowes, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia at Dawn. Taken at the same time as Beginning of a new day for something a little bit different. It was pretty chilly, windy and way too early in the morning for me, it’s amazing how much lens distortion you get with a wide angle lens! / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. ‘Twas a fantastic sunrise on Sunday morning. I scrambled to get a few shots as i was running late. Stupid snooze button. Better late than never. The star of the shot is certainly the sunrise. Canon 50D + Sigma 10-20 / 10 second exposure @ f11 / One RAW photo edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Please View Large Cromer Pier is to be located on the Norfolk Coast. I took this image on a two day outing with Lesley when we travelled down and explored this part of the English Coastline. The sky was just awesome on this night. The pier here at Cromer forms part of the English Heritage.
