Early morning by the beach. My profile / / /
After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

On the beach at sunrise on West Island, over looking Pulu Maria, Cocos Islands. / Arriving at the beach with the promise of another stunning day, my husband turned off the car key, reclined the seat and went back to sleep! Rock formations at low tide. Taken with my 5D and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens. This is a 82mm lens and I am currently using Cokin Filters (handheld).....uuuuurrgh. I am very keen to get a Lee Neutral Density Filter set. If you have this setup I would be very interested to hear from you what experiences you have made in regards to vignetting and what Lee components you have mounted on your lens. Thanks heaps

A tranquil sunrise at Wattamolla, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. / People have asked me how I got the radiant effect from the sun. Simple – just pointed the camera at it lol. The flare comes from the sun’s’ rays hitting the lens at nearly 90 degrees and then the blades of the aperture diaphragm inside the camera splitting it up. Least that’s what I’ve been told so if anyone has a better explanation I’d love to hear it. If you like this one you might like to check out a bigger Radiance:

Dawn sunlight breaking through the clouds near Inverloch Victoria
Back to my favourite spot to catch first light reflecting off of the Causeway beams. As the sun rises this side of the Causeway is often highlighted, showing the features and grain of the timbers. The Causeway joins the Victor Harbor mainland with Granite Island. As many of you know this spot is a regular of mine as many years ago we followed my fathers wishes and spread his ashes alongside this structure, his favourite fishing spot!!! Quite a bold and stormy sky in the background for this one which seems to complement the foreground highlights. Canon 400D, HDR – 2 shot merge in Photomatix.

Taken at Rhyll early in the morning when the tide was way out. On the way back from Cowes to Woolamai I thought I might stop by Rhyll as I had never been there before even after all the years we had a house there. I spotted this boat tied up in the mud and couldn’t resist a shot. My shoes sank into the mud real deep and had to give the tripod a good clean. Taken with my Canon 40D with polarising and graduated filters. Featured in the All About Boating group on the 19th of April 2009 One of the photos in my Phillip Island series, please click here to see the rest of my images in the series

Dawn at Murlough Beach in County Down, Northern Ireland on a cold windy November morning. / Canon 5D mkII 24-70 f2.8L. 4 stop ND and 3 stop ND grad filters.
Murlough beach in County Down, Northern Ireland on a very windy November morning. How any of this stayed sharp is beyond me – shielding the camera from the wind with my coat seems to have worked. / Canon 5D mkII 24-70 2.8L, ND8 filter plus a 3 stop grad. 10 second exposure. Zero common sense! Best viewed larger.
