This is another case of right place right time. I normally check the tides to see where they will be at sunrise and sunset, but as my fiance and I were staying near Geelong for a few days, I didn’t bring a tide chart with me and so I had to take guesses as to where it would likely be. Anyway, at the last minute I decided to head down to Point Lonsdale to take a few shots of the lighthouse and to my delight the tide was out and slowly creeping in. By the time I finished shooting, I was walking through water to get back to the shore.
Taken at Norah Head, two hours north of Sydney on the Central Coast of New South Wales. Beautiful little place =) the lighthouse there is too cute.

As calm as this image looks, the waves crashing over the rocks were huge. I had to grab my gear and jump out of the way of the waves numerous times to capture this image. Captured 10-15 minutes before sunrise. Camera – Fuji GX617 / Film – Fuji Velvia 100 To see more of my work please visit www.gallerym-australia.com

1 Thessalonians 4:16 / For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: / Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / Canon 400d / /

Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, there were plenty of relaxed holiday-makers still enjoying the ambience, the breeze and the spectacular skies. The Light Keeper’s House at Heceta Head. This shot is special too me. It’s the first one I ever sold and my Uncle, whom I am named for, was the first to inspire me to shoot photos and was standing beside me as I took this shot. Oregon, United States
Interesting day this was, 30 knot cool winds, heavy showers, hot sunshine with 80% humidity, and a nice high tide to create these beautiful explosions!! I havn’t seen the ocean quite this rough in a long time, even when cyclone hamish was off the coast. Canon 50D, 21mm. Available very large!

Mr Weatherman forecast rain for the next 7 days. Not taking his advice i decided to try my luck out yesterday morning. Well there wasn’t any light, but also no rain, so that’s a bonus! Only a small exposure adjustment needed in post for this one. I’m loving my 50D.
3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Sun Storm was shot at the same location and on the same shoot as Storm Passing Crescent. The light was sensational. The passing storm had been replaced by bright sunshine as the foreboding clouds hung offshore and contemplated where to dump next. On reflection, I could have gone up to f8 and sped up the shot, and perhaps should have. Lesson learnt by the end of the 6 day shoot.
