Great Egret searching for food along the bayou.
taken at the harbor in the morning light …just enough light to darken the bg.
‘The Twelve Apostles’ coastline of Port Campbell National Park, Victoria, Australia. Photographed by time exposure (for 3hrs) at night by full moon light. / It’s typically very windy along this coastline and I found that a salt covered camera and lens plus slight movement from buffeting winds makes for poor quality and blurred results. So, right weather (pretty rare), full moon, lots of time, sand bags, beanie, and ample coffee were essential. Salt spray build up on the lens and camera wobble over hours ruined earlier attempts at this. / Tomiyama Art Panorama 6×17 cropped, Fuji Velvia film. / © Ern Mainka
This image was created at the Apollo Bay Docks early in 2008, went here for a holiday just as I was getting into Photography. I went down to the docks just as a storm was rolling in and it made for some interesting weather conditions! This pic was created from one raw file. I changed the exposures in Lightroom and then merged 3 images using Photomatix, increased the blue and green saturation levels in Lightroom and added a bit of contrast. This is the result! Got up for dawn at Port Campbell only for it to be drizzly and overcast, but by the time I got down to the beach and the sun started to rise some awesome colour came through and it made the early start well and truly worth it! / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. For information read this story on the collapse / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. Trying to make the most of the bleak weather, Mother Nature poked a hole in the cloud to take a peak.. This only lasted about 1 minute, and I’m glad I captured it. If you havn’t been on the Great Ocean Road, I highly recommend it as one of the most beautiful coast lines, possibly in the world! Shot taken at 7:30am, and already the tourists were packed in the lookout area. None of which I could see were from Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available Large, and definately best viewed LARGE.

The famous Australian Landmark, The 12 Apostles. A collection of limestone stacks, on the Great Ocean Road, Port Campbell National Park, VIC, Australia. Few have fallen down now, but the name remains the same. The name was changed in 1950 from Sow & Piglets, Muttonbird Island was the “Sow” and the little islands, or apostles now, were the “Piglets”. This shot taken 10th May 2009, these formations change constantly. Canon 50D, 40mm, 7:40am. Available Large!
A natural formation known as a Blow Hole, as caves grow landwards from the forces of the waves and winds, they eventually find a weak spot in the ground above, and form blow holes. This one can be found on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria. If you havn’t been on the Great Ocean Road, I highly recommend it as one of the most beautiful coast lines, possibly in the world! Shot taken at 9:55am. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available Large, and definately best viewed LARGE.
The Island Archway, another natural formation caused from rough seas, and high winds. It sits in Loch Ard Gorge. *NOTE – This formation is no longer an Arch, on June 11 2009, the arch fell into the sea. Here is a link to the news.. This natural wonder if found on the Great Ocean Road, Port Campbell National Park, Victoria, Australia.
