  • The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

  • Taken in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Every other tree on this stretch of coastline was a green palm, this was only the exception and I couldn’t resist it. See my video on YouTube

  • This berg was as big as a house! We were bobbing around in a little lifeboat so we could be close to these and get some photos. Our main ship, the Skorpios III, although happy to plough through ice flows would not venture closer than 1 kilometre to the glacier face. The glacier in the background is the Pope Pio XI, the largest glacier (I think) in South America. Southern Patagonia, Chile.

  • This is for Mike, one of the weather guys on the Cocos Islands. Everyday we would ask him what the forecast was, and everyday he would reply “Mostly fine, chance of a shower”! I guess this was the “chance of a shower” bit! Mike is a great guy with lots of wonderful stories from his time spent living all around Australia. • Elephant Rocks, William Bay National Park, Western Australia (near Denmark) This national park is one of my favourite places on Earth. • This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. • These two seastacks just south of Haystack rock are known as the “Haystack Needles.” This picture was taken just as the sun dipped beneath the horizon. As the tide retreated and left a thin layer of water, I was able to capture this reflection in the beach. Cannon Beach, a city in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States, is an tourist resort destination, popular in Pacific Northwest located on highway 101. In 1846, a cannon from the US Navy schooner Shark washed ashore just north of Arch Cape, a few miles to the south of Elk Creek, the current Cannon Beach. The schooner was wrecked while attempting to cross the Columbia Bar, also known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific” because of the danger of the bar. The beach was renamed “Cannon Beach.”
