Thought this might cheer you up. The Coaching House Hotel in Middleton in Teesdale has this base relief painted on the walls of the inside of the big double doors, where the Horses and Coaches used to pass through and be housed whilst the travellers spent the night at the Hotel. It is painted in the style of the old coaching house., and I think it lends itself to the Hotel. I DID NOT PAINT IT!!!! this is in case you all compliment me on my artwork haha.
Getting a bit homesick so here’s a few shots of home. The White Horse Inn in Beverley. First mentioned in 1666 as a coaching inn, the coach entrance can be seen on the left. From 1927 till 1976 the pub was owned by the Collinson family, Miss Nellie was the licencee and the pub became affecionately known as Nellies. More people know it as Nellies now than the White Horse. It is one of the few pubs in the world with its original gas lighting and on cold winter days open coal fires burn in each of its many small flagstoned rooms, so well known it even has its own website.
This is a snap shot of an old stage coach in 1880’s town, SD.

In a shop so small I couldn’t stand behind the counter, a cute mirrored girl sells sunglasses on a San Francisco street with everything from live sex shows to Macy’s. All the big names in style and fashion were here: Fendi, Adidas, Chanel, Spy, Ray-Ban, Gucci, Coach, Versace, DNKY, Armani, Diesel, Calvin Klein, Serengeti, Gargoyles, Arnette, Lacoste, Harley Davidson, Nike, and tons more. These grasses are really inexpensive, too. For just $10, you could get any brand your heart desired. And the really cool part was that you buy any 2 pair and get a 3rd pair FREE! WOW! That’s 2 pair of Gucci and 1 Armani for (Gasp!) $20 and California sales tax!!! There were some catches posted on the wall but they were obvious things like: No Discounts and No Refunds and No Exceptions. But SOSF DID offer Exchanges within 48 hours if you still had the receipt. Cool, huh? If the sunglasses broke in, say, 29 hours, you could run back to the store and get a brand new pair for just the price of a taxi ride or $25 parking (whichever is cheaper in SF). Nowhere else on the planet could you get a deal like this. Trust me. A long time ago, I bought a pair of Ray-Bans for about $3 from a drug store. I was dizzy and nauseous before the sun went down that day. Something about the glass in them being made so badly they caused my 11-year old eyes to try to re-learn how to see. It would have cost me a lot more but I could have ridden my bike to Shades Of San Francisco and gotten some Gucci’s! They would have matched at least ONE of my Armani suits or Versace handbags I owned back then. (Don’t ask.) $3 for a crummy pair of knock-offs or $30 for THREE pair of brand new Gucci’s. I got sooooooooo ripped off when I was 11. The image was sweetly featured in San Francisco Group

On an English summer’s day a coach-load of culture seekers leave Stratford-upon-Avon for a day tour of the Cotswolds in the comfort of a Weymann bodied Leyland of Timpsons, a 1956 model only 7.6” wide which helped on the narrow lanes encountered in the Cotswolds. In the background is the town’s bus station and coach park a stones throw from the gently flowing Avon with graceful swans and weeping willows, a perfect backdrop for the National Shakespeare Theatre on its grassy banks where the works of the great Bard are performed daily. The original of this painting oils on canvas 20”x30” is for sale at £1000, see my web-site for contact details. www.transportartist.co.uk
When the Birmingham -London section of the M1,one of Britain’s first motorways, opened in 1959 the forward looking, dynamic Midland Red company lost no time in introducucing the country’s first motorway express coach service with specially built vehicles based on their existing C5 design. These handsome machines were fitted with torbo-chargers and capable of 100mph [this is long before the blanket 70mph max.] which they needed to be in view of the tight schedule. The motorway proper in those days didn’t start until just outside Coventry and finished at Watford Gap so drivers had to fight their way at both ends of the journey though normal roads beset by roadworks and other traffic to keep to time. The C5s in their dotage were later converted for bus duties so had their turbo-chargers removed to avoid the temptation of 100mph service buses! This painting in oils on canvas 20”x30” and much enhanced with sharper detail is for sale at £1000. See my web-site for contact details www.transportartist.co.uk
This display of produce was carefully arranged on a wooden crate in the back of a vintage Chevrolet on display at the 2007 Royal Melbourne Show. Because we were indoors and under cover in a pavilion, the light wasn’t the best. Accordingly, I used the bottles in the foreground to emphasise the sharpness of the pumpkins, green and red apples and tantalising grapes as the main subject in the background. It was only after I viewed this shot full-size on my computer that I realised the grapes were the only artificial element in the display! I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 68mm. Featured in BITS AND PIECES, September 2009. Featured in BERRIES, FRUITS AND SEEDS, October 2009. 47-9365
