Now that RB is so HUGE we have enough members to start the RB pugalier fan club. So here’s to / - Me wih Errol and Flynn / Barbie with her gorgeous friend And the third member is our own Justin and his charge Gus Some may think it is a bit weird that RB already has at least three pugalier carers (they do need a lot of care as they are afraid of a lot of things). I think it just goes to show how creative pugalier owners are.

MCC A Short History / The Melbourne Camera Club has a history of continuous activity since it was founded in 1891, making it one of the oldest photographic clubs in Australia. The club was the inspiration of Ludovico Hart, the instructor in photography at the Working Men’s College, and was known then as the Working Men’s College Photographic Club. The identity of the first president is not known but was probably the director of the college Professor W.C. Kernot. The club provided a meeting place where students and graduates of the college could pursue the art and practice of photography, and, in admitting women was in advance of its time. After a few years the restriction on membership was removed and the club became perhaps the most liveliest photographic club in Australia. Lectures on new photographic techniques and discussions on the art of photography were well attended and a darkroom was available. In those days the meetings were often enlivened with songs, piano recitals and recitations! The club was also involved in sponsoring intercolonial (i.e. interstate and New Zealand) exhibitions and competitions. In 1901 the much loved and respected Hart retired to Hawaii. The club continued to prosper. Members entered overseas exhibitions and were pleased to find their work compared well with that of workers in other countries. The 1914-1918 war caused a lot of disruption to club activities. Those not serving in the armed forces were involved in the Snapshots from Home League, putting in an immense effort in attending the homes of soldiers to take photographs of their loved ones, then processing the pictures to be sent abroad. / Because indoor gatherings were prohibited during the influenza epidemic of 1919, our club was obliged to continue its activities with outdoor meetings and excursions. When that emergency had passed attention turned to the future as the college had closed the photographic department and it had become evident that separation from the college was inevitable and that this would entail a change of name. The Melbourne Camera Club commenced operation at the YMCA building in the second half of 1919. This was the first of thirteen moves in the next sixty years! After the restrictions of the war years enthusiasm for photography was running high and there was a considerable increase in membership. There was also a good deal of controversy. One subject which generated a lot of heat was whether it was legitimate to print in clouds from a separate negative: eventually that issue was decided in the affirmative. Well-known workers in this period included William Howieson and Sydney Fox. Problems arose with the owners of the building and new premises were found in Little Collins Street. By 1922 the membership stood at 195, probably the largest of any photographic club in Australasia and certainly one of the busiest. Four club exhibitions were held each year for prints and lantern slides. The club survived the depression of the 1930s but with reduced membership and in a precarious financial position. Yet enthusiasm remained high and much work of international standard was produced. For example Ruth Hollick won prizes for her photographs of children, Dr Julian Smith for his character portraits, John Eaton for his landscapes. The war years were difficult and the club only just survived. In the late 1940s there was again a resurgence. The names of the many outstanding photographers in the post-war years are too numerous to list here. A permanent collection of prints and slides was started in 1948. We now have a substantial collection for which we are in the process of building archival storage facilities. Because frequent moving is costly and disruptive, a fund was started in the early 1970s with the aim of purchasing a building. After several disappointments we were able to secure a magnificent but dilapidated building in South Melbourne. Now fully restored and with a darkroom, library, studio and gallery we are proud to claim we own the most prestigious amateur photographic clubrooms in Australia, perhaps in the world! / / Andrew Gyopar February 2007 / /

Have you ever pondered how much time it takes to create your very own masterpiece these days? Now granted I am referring to digital photography, in which we can conceivably create a stunning image in all of twenty minutes, perhaps. Within the last two years I really became interested in digital photography and learned about HDR (High Dynamic Range). HDR is a process, by which the photographer will take a sequence of multiple bracketed images at different exposure settings and then merge them all into one image, using a third-party tool such as Photomatix, for instance. / After viewing the results of this process, I became hooked instantly. Later in 2007 I had the opportunity to travel to the wonderful city of Prague and due to fantastic overcast skies tried my HDR process again, with rather pleasing result. / Both of these images were taken from Charles Bridge, which in itself is a fantastic place to visit. If you look really carefully, you can see the “ghost-like” figures near the water’s edge. With multiple exposures, these folks obviously walked through the frames as I took them. I finally also decided to re-visit a place close to my favorite vacation spot in Corolla, NC and ran it through the HDR process, with some fantastic results. This is an image of the Whalehead Hunt Club in Currituck, NC. Currituck Lighthouse is also visible in this image. Even closer to home yet, while visiting a friends home, I decided to try the HDR process yet again on this beautiful Steinway Piano. Again the results appealed to me a great deal. Thank you for looking at my short photo essay, hope you enjoyed looking at my images.

  • The Red Bubble Club concept has been set up as an alternative to Red Bubble Groups. This is not to knock Groups, but to put forth an alternative in addition to Groups here on Red Bubble. The purpose is to include 12 Red Bubble Artists and give them extra exposure for their work. The main advantage over Groups is that with Groups your work eventually becomes buried under other artist’s works after the Group increases in member size. With a Club your Avatar is always present on the front page and will always be as long as you stay a member of the Club due to the fact that no more than 12 members are allowed to join each Club. The Red Bubble Team has not endorsed, promoted, sanctioned or other wise been involved in creating ‘Clubs’. This Club concept is the brainchild Thomas Pettit. CLUB ONE IS FULL! / One day after posting this journal entry, it is full. Never imagined such a positive response!!! If you want to start your own club, I’ll design the avatar for you and tell you the basics if how I did it. A word of caution though, this would be a task for someone who is proficient at cutting, pasting, and most of all coding links! / I can help some, but can’t devote enough time to go through every step with someone new to this. If and when other Club Leaders start their Clubs and let me know about it, I’ll post a link in this journal entry. If you just want to be a member of a Club and not a Leader, check back to see what Clubs may open up. If you start a Club on your own with your own designs and rules, let me know, I’ll post a link here for those type Clubs too. OTHER CLUBS: • WildOnes / / WildOnes was started by Mundy Hackett on 5/3/08 • CircleOfLight / / CircleOfLight was started by Butchart on 5/8/08

Wanna join? This Group is not for everyone. It’s called THE BUYERS CLUB. Go to GROUPS…find it…and JOIN—if you are willing to BUY…then, eventually you may get a sale, too. Tired of not selling a thing on this site…or just a ‘greeting card’ now & then? / THE BUYERS CLUB requires EVERY member to make 2 purchases per year. / This means each member must buy something OTHER THAN A GREETING CARD…a print, a t-shirt, a calendar….Members must make one purchase / btwn Jan-June 2009 / and one purchase btwn July—Dec 2009. Each member may sell something within their ENTIRE portfolio…you are not restricted by what you upload to the GROUP. I’m hoping this Group creates more sales for those of us who want to sell more of our work. THE CANVAS PRINTS are amazing here…ever order one? Find one you LOVE…and order it…and you’ll see. / Hugs, / Michael

27-01-09 The Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club held its 2008 Print of the Year Competition presentation tonight. I was fortunate enough to win some awards: 1. Skoolgurlz / / won a Credit Certificate in the Open Large Colour Print section. 2. Fungi Quartet (Mycena subgalericulata #2) / / won a Credit Certificate in the Open Large Colour Print section. 3. Cacey the Presenter / / won a Credit Certificate in the Open Large Monochrome Print section. 4. Into the Mist #2 / / won a Credit Certificate in the Open Large Monochrome Print section. [Not a bad effort for six entries against some stiff competition and a tough judge.] 5. I was runner-up in the aggregate points score in the Open Large Colour Print, the Set Subject Large Colour Print and the Set Subject Large Monochrome Print sections. We all had a great night including a lovely meal and an entertaining presentation. My utmost thanks to all here in RedBubble who have supported all my work and encouraged me throughout the year. Without such great support and encouragement my work could well be languishing in the dark recesses of my hard drive never to be displayed publicly nor see the light of competition. GB / Dennis

This evening was the opening night of the Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club Art Show and Sale which is held every year over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. This year’s event had an additional category, for photographs (although I have entered in the general media section for a few years and won a commended prize a couple of years ago). But this year, I won first prize in the photography section with my image In Another World. It’s the first time I’ve ever won an event in an art show, more specifically this one in my home town. There were almost 800 works of art in the show overall (although not sure how many in my category but a lot more photographs than in the past). It is such a huge honour for me and the feedback I’m getting from the local community even after only a few hours has been so wonderful. Here’s the image in question. / And here’s one of me at the show looking pretty flushed and stressed (as I do in large crowds) but still very excited. / A very big thank you to my Redbubble friends for their support, to Keryl who suggested this photo project in the first place, to my friends Sarah and Ana who encourage me and support my artistic endeavours, and Redbubble for providing me with the opportunity to reconnect with the creativity within. / xxx / (the prize money is wonderful and very much needed … now, fingers crossed that someone will buy my image)

Last night I posted a Buyer’s Booth photo and cut and pasted the description, the links, etc. did not copy (added spaces for me after the colon). Unfortunately, I cannot edit! I also cannot reply to the kind folks who have commented (I think this one may be a RB issue). So I will retry here! / I am a member of the Buyers Club which requires 1 purchase every 6 months of another group member’s work, not limited to the ones in the group but any in a group members portfolio, to help boost sales. I had been watching RobynLee She has some very unique collages, oils, acrylics, and watercolors. She put together a calendar for me, A Mood for Every Month The calendar is on the left. / The first card on the left is “Red Umbrellas by Rick Todaro I have a Coca-Cola collection and this work just called to me. / The next card is from Kim Calvert I relate to Kim’s work and like her name, LOL. I found that I could really like abstract art from rust and ironically right after I purchased the card, the same image was featured on the home page. The art is Psychedelic Erosion / The middle card was one of my first favorites after joining Redbubble, Hooked on you #1 by Cindy perrinjaquet My fiancée is an avid fisherman and I’m saving it for Christmas (shhhhhhhh). Because of this, I thought my purchases would look good with my recent mosaic, / The fourth card, Spectabular is from the art collection of a wonderful lady, Virginia N Fred (aka Gina). I met Gina and “kathy for a day of photography in early October and look forward to many more excursions! Here we are (they’re gonna kill me) The Dorkettes Left to right-Kim, Kathy, Gina. / The card on the right, Old New England Barn in Autumn is from my good friend Monica Scanlan We are co-hosts of Live and Let Live with Carlie Hensley and have been friends before Redbubble. Hopefully someday we will meet in person! / This was my third set of Redbubble purchases. I have to say the quality of the cards, calendars, and printing is excellent! To all those I watch, comment, and favorite. I wish I could purchase work from everyone now, but I have not won the lottery yet (OMG there is 17 pages of people)! So little by little my collection will grow! For those who watch, comment, and favorite my work, I truly appreciate it! I will probably not get rich in money here, but I have gained many riches from my friends here on Redbubble. Thanks for that!
