Alpine Tundra Sunrise Location-— Mount Evans visitor center in Colorado, elevation 11,500 Feet Description: This shot was hard. Dang hard to take. Not from a photography standpoint but from a serious lack of oxygen standpoint. Over 2 miles up….surrounded by Bristle Cone Pines (one of the oldest living things on earth, only seen on Mt Evans…several thousand years old) this Alpine Meadow made for quite an ideal location, when I wasn’t huffin’ and puffin’ and getting very dizzy from walking 20 feet! lol I had to stop several times to catch my breath. This is the edge of the tree-line, where very little was behind me, the oxygen is to thin for things up here to grow. Used my Minolta 18-200 DT Lens on this shot. —-—-—-—-—— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe Sitting in the center of the town square in Santa Fe, New Mexico stands the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Built between the years of 1869-1886, it sits on an earlier site of a church built in 1626. This was a REALLY hard shotto pull off as the town center square is filled with people so I had to act quickly. I fired off 3 brackets handheld for the HDR and metered at the bricks on teh church…hoping this was going to work….I think it did. Thoughts most welcomed! / —John http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/2720872

Sometimes, not often enough in my opinion, I am lucky to get to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado at first light and this was one of those times. Just as the sun started hitting Long’s Peak, I almost ran the car off the road, to park and run in the back seat for my tripod…had to be done! Let me know what ya think! / —-John
This was taken in Little Lakes Valley, Eastern Sierras, Ca. I have submitted a few different photos from this hike and the lighting was just so intimate that I may just remember that day forever. This is the one furthest down the trail and closest to the mountains in the background. There are many meadows along the trail and they are usually very lush but by summer’s end they start to dry out like this. I thought it made for some nice contrast. You can see a little bit of the trail on the right leading into the pines.

Garden Of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado Ya know, one of the things which I have noticed here on DA is the lack of traditional B&W Landscape Photography. Sure, we see the avant guard stuff done in long exposure from the French photographers, plenty of waterscapes, but where has the tradition gone as far as Landscapes is concerned? It makes me kind of sad to think that the art of B&W Landscape Photography done in the traditional sense is being lost….and I can’t help but think, what would Ansel think or Clyde Butcher? (another one of my HUGE influences by the way) When I shot this I had to be pretty careful, sitting on a blind curve isn’t always the best of ideas, but I had to get it and I was determined, I wanted the road in this specifically not just for scale, but for perspective, the way it leads the eye when you look at it, and for sheer compositional sake. I like the way it splits the landscape into 2 parts, separating the top and the bottom, it also makes the viewer notice the immediate surrounds more, like the Yuca’s growing in the bottom part on the left side of the road. I think this one I will print out large for myself, 18×24 or greater, fo some reason it just has the look & feel that I love, and I can’t imagine any smaller displayed on my wall. / I hope you all like it as much as I do! / Let me know your thoughts! / —-John

How could I resist the colours of the poppies on this landscape, so traditional with the farmhouse in the background. / Taken with a Nikon D80 / /
i was invited to join a project with a friend called recycled art... what you do is buy a starbuck’s coffee, and draw on the cup once you’re done… i haven’t bought a starbuck’s coffee in a looooooong time… but i thought, why not?? it sounds like fun (i’ll stick to 1 cup a week, too costly), so i drew a robot on the cup… well, i fell in love with the robot so much, that i put the cup on hold to make a print of it X)... i slaved all day and night on this yesterday, so it’s a birthday present to me =D (which was yesterday)...
