Taken on Mt.Higginbotham at Mt.Hotham the cloud had just thinned enough toward the sun enough to allow a soft but distinct shadow to be cast by the snowgum onto the fresh snow. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature
Eilean Donan Castle, winter 2007
Romance depicting heroic or marvelous deeds, pageantry, romantic exploits etc Eilean Donan castle bathing in the early afternoon light _As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932_ / http://www.eileandonancastle.com/
Isle of Skye, February 2007 :)
A major early snow storm blanketed the Cascade Mountains. A small lake nearly froze over by winter cold offers a bit of a reflection as Mt. Rainier looms in the background capped by a lenticular cloud cap. A pristine view one can linger on if you can stand the cold.

Loch of the Lowes lies in the beautiful scottish borders between Moffat and Selkirk. It flows into nearby St Mary’s loch (with its thriving sailing club) past old Tibbieshiels inn, hostelry and overnight stop for walkers on the southern upland way crossing Scotland. Overlooking the north end of the loch is a monument to James Hogg – the Scottish Poet known as the Ettrick Shepherd, friend and contemporary of Sir Walter Scott. Taken 4/3/08 (untouched) with a pocket fuji finepix A500 (There is a 2nd loch of the lowes further north in Perthshire, complete with osprey viewing centre – but you can see the wonderful fish eagle hunting here too if you are lucky!) My first ever feature on the home page ages on 23rd April 2008 and what a party that was…LOL See also : ‘i am a rock’ and ‘LoL’ loch of the lowes

November 11,2006, driving through an early winter squall from Calgary and into Banff National Park, in the Rocky Mountains. Caught sight of Castle Mountain and stopped to wait until the wind and clouds gave me the view I was looking for. Very cold, but I managed to get several that I liked. I think this one is the best. When we arrived at the mountain on Friday afternoon, the temperatures were hovering at slightly above freezing and the icing on the trees and the roads was trying to decide if it wanted to refreeze or not. The winds came up … and the power to the cabin was out. It was going to be a c-c-c-coooold night if the power company couldn’t get up the mountain!! But we underestimated Valley Rural Electric … those brave darlings had our power back on within a short while, and life was good. For about 2 hours. Then just as my son was arriving and driving down our road there was a POP and a blinding flash and we were again plunged into darkness. The powerful power guys were back on the scene quickly and by the time we got back to the house after having dinner out, the electric was back and stayed back. Saturday was windy and gray with a little snow toward evening. Sunday morning broke bright and beautiful, as you see it!!! I hope you enjoy our view!!!! Now, go grab some hot cocoa (drinking chocolate to our British friends), crank up this tune … then come back and enjoy the rest of my winter-wonderland!!!!! Herringfleet Mill can be found where you might least expect to find it – about twenty yards on the Suffolk side of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Given Norfolk’s monopoly on spectacular, well-preserved mills, it seems only fair that neighbouring Suffolk should have a few of its own…although it should be noted that even this mill is officially in the Norfolk Broads. This photograph was taken on an extremely February day. A 13 seconds’ exposure captured the movement of the clouds as they raced across the East Anglian sky. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 13 seconds at f/22.
