  • Another storm rolls across the Highplains of Victoria

  • A winter panorama shot of the valley Valldal on the west coast of Norway, taken during the christmas holiday. Stitched together of 15 pictures. Post-processing: / Stitched some pictures together, obviously. Fixed the contrast with curves, added a lighter curve only on the lower part as the valley was pretty dark, and the mountain tops really light. Added two black and white layers set to hard light (140%), mainly on the sky and the mountain tops.

  • Monument Valley, Utah.

  • I remember just standing there.. mouth agape… hearing nothing…

  • Pastel 75cmx54cm on Canson paper 1996 / Collection of the artist. An amazing thunderhead cloud appeared over the escarpment & I happened to capture it on camera as I walked down the road. Some of this painting was completed ‘plein air’ as I lived across the road back then & was able to set up my easel outside to capture the constantly changing colours of the mountains. What was a dairy farm at the time has now been converted into an organic egg farm & large sheds dominate the landscape. The green grassy hill below Flat Rock is exceptionally steep & the local farmer who owns this particular spot still slashes up the hill on his tractor. • What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

  • I never did get around to posting all my autumn shots….so here’s another one…there’s a huge group of photogs all massed across the other side, trying to jostle for position on shifting reed beds and yuckky mud, and further across there’s a couple more. I gave up waiting over that side, and moved to the western edge to see what I could see…..now you can see what I could see :) This was processed in NZ with photomatix, back when I was probably a little overwhelmed by the colour….I might reprocess it and see if I like it better with my newer techniques New Zealand / Seascapes / Frogs / Lensbaby / Infrared / Industrial / Spam / Panorama / Landscapes / Real Estate Series / People

  • I appreciate you taking time to view my work, and I really enjoy reading your comments. / Thanks for visiting :-) After shooting sunrises and sunsets in the Grampians with Neil and Lee, we finally got some clouds in the sky…well these were in the sky if you were in the valley, but high up on Boroka lookout, we were way above the rolling clouds. / ....it was such an amazing site. We met a lovely couple at the lookout having breakfast, who were visiting from England to introduce their newborn to the grandparents…just a magic place to have breakfast.

  • Took this shot last year on Mt Donna Buang in the rain. The rain made photography very difficult but the mist was so atmospheric I thought I’d have a go anyway. Pointing a camera almost straight up in the rain with a wide angle lens and an umbrella is a delicate balancing act. It involved lots of lens wiping, hoping and a few screw ups (drips and umbrella in frame didn’t quite give the shot the right vibe). Of all my shots this ended up being my only drip free and umbrellaless one. To check out other shots from this area see my Yarra Ranges gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society

The Fenland Trail in the morning affords a good opportunity to see wildlife moving around the marsh and river areas. This trail connects to the Bow River Trail which actually goes all the way into Banff townsite proper. If you have time, this is a nice easy walk to get to this area without actually having to drive to get to it. The Vermillion Lakes are slightly to the west of the Fenland Trail and you can either walk to them or drive your car and use the pulloffs available. It’s a bit noisy being so close to the Trans Canada Hwy, but the scenery more than makes up for it. Throughout the day you’ll see numerous waterfowl frequenting the area. The real draw, however, is in the evening when the winds are low and the water is still, making the lake surface a mirror reflection of the now beautifully lit Mt Rundle in the background. • Worth clicking Large to see all the stars. 30 second exposure of a moving cloudbank backlit by the moon between two pinnacles in the Gardens of Stone National Park (isn’t that the coolest name for a NP?). Taken around midnight. First new landscape pic for a while. A friend invited me to another friend’s birthday in this amazing location. I’ve never been to this area on the other side of the Blue Mountains and was just gobsmacked as we drove down this valley with these majestic mountains rising on either side. I spotted this vantage point on the way in and as the party wore on snuck away to get some shots and was presented with this vista as I rolled up in the car. Managed to get about 15 mins in before it started to sleet. Man it was freezing with the wind coming off the late snow. The party was in an old art deco hotel being lovingly restored by this young couple and their six(!) children (oldest 11!!) Can’t believe the energy some people have or their vision. This hotel is located in a near-deserted old shale mining town at the end of a valley you can only access by dirt road about 4 hours from Sydney. It was all quite surreal – particularly when some of the girls at the party heard I was a photographer and decided they wanted to do a Norman Lindsay style “bacchanalia” photoshoot at the end of the night – just hilarious but OMG working with drunk models is hard work – “sit still”, “stop giggling” – never again! Still I managed to do both my favourite styles of photography in one night so it’s churlish to complain. Canon 1Ds Mk III / Tv: 30 secs / Av: f/3.2 / ISO: 1600
