This photograph was taken in the Mississippi Delta, near my childhood home. It is one of those humble African-American churches one finds scattered throughout farmlands and plantations in the South. This particular church happens to be one that someone that was a second mother/ best friend attended and to which she took me on occasion. It is also the site where she is buried. Though modest both inside and out, there was always an enormous amount of vitality, forgiveness, music and positive energy in this little church- just like Tina. This one has a lot of meaning for me and is a personal favorite.
