  • A cold mist rises from the surface of Clear Lake on a cold fall morning a twilight begins to glow across the clouds and still waters of the lake.

  • This fantastic image was also taken from my home in Tucson, Arizona.

  • The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. This is still one of my favourite locations to photograph and is only a 40 minute drive south of Adelaide. Pentax *ist DS – DSLR. Also available:

  • “This is my peaceful time, its calm and quiet, only the sound of my shutter breaks the crisp morning air.” ** / Some sharpening in Lightroom, thats all / /

  • “A pessimist only sees the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides and shrugs; an optimist doesn’t see the clouds at all …. he’s walking on them.” / - Leonard L. Levinson. /     Cloud Evolution by Shane Smart. / “Number Two Rocks” / Canunda National Park – South Australia. © /

  • Taken at Crown Hill Park in Lakewood, Colorado. This my usual dog-walking park and more recently my coyote-photography park. it’s a pretty unassuming little place, but when the light is just right it can be spectacular. Crown Hill Park / Lakewood, CO / Sony Alpha700 / Sigma 17-35 / Adorama tripod & ballhead / ISO200, 1/80sec. f/7.1

  • This shot was taken in The Water Run on the Coastal Walk in Royal NP just south of Sydney Australia. It was a wild and stormy evening and the sun just started to emerge from the clouds behind me as it was setting. The blue tint to the water comes for a very short period around sunset – you can just see it in any moving water at this time in the right light but the camera really picks it up. Canon 30D / Tv: 1/6sec / Av: f/13 / ISO: 100 / FL: 28mm

  • Ya, thought the title pretty much summed it up! Captured a couple night ago as the sun was sinking low out at Reunion Lake on the eastern plains of Colorado. The colors were just stunning, I was pretty awe struck, it yielded quite a few really nice shots! Let me know what ya think! / —-John

  • Captured 12/13/2008 on a very frigid morning at Cherry Creek State Park, here in Colorado, I froze my damn keester off because I was dense and forgot to bring along my damn jacket! It was an incredible sunrise folks, one which I won’t forget, the colors changed and developed by the minute, going from the cool blues to the warm pinks, reds, and oranges…and I was able to get something in the shots which I had never had been able to before, the lake actually shimmering! In some of the other shots in days to come, you can really see this, and you kind of can here in the bottom left side a tad, an odd occurrence, and one I finally managed to snag! Long exposure, using my Singh-Ray CPL and Marumi ND4, on my Minolta 18-70 DT Lens, I hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! / —-John !

  • A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. Hope ya all like it! / —-John

  • *Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! Hope ya all like it! / —-John Minolta 5D / Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens / Singh-Ray CPL / Marumi ND4 / Dynatran Tripod

  • A Fiery Dawn A Late Autumn Sunrise captured at Lake Estes in Estes Park, Colorado. It was to die for, to say the least….just the distant sound of the Elk bugling is about all you heard. I hope ya all like it! / —-John Make: KONICA MINOLTA / Model: MAXXUM 5D / Shutter Speed: 1/40 second / F Number: F/4.5 / Focal Length: 24 mm / ISO Speed: 200 More can always been seen on my website at jdebordphoto.com

  • Shot taken minutes after the sunset over the snow covered Lake of Two Mountains, Oka Quebec, CANADA. I particularly liked how the sun’s rays created a vertical light beam into the sky. Taken on Saturday, March 14th 2009, Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens. Featured in Outsiders, April 2009 / Featured in Dimensions, March 2009.

  • Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Now that being said, hope ya all dig it! / John See more on my website at www.jdebordphoto.com Minolta MAXXUM 5D / Shutter Speed: 1/25 second / F Number: F/9.0 / Focal Length: 80 mm / ISO Speed: 200

  • “Floating on Clouds” was shot in Goulds Newfoundland Canada. This is The Dory in natural light. I was talking to a friend about shooting “The Dory” and “Floating on Clouds” and how I used a polarizer to bring out the clouds on the water (as seen here) and removed it and used a flash to shoot “The Dory”. I was wondering in hindsight what I would have come up with if I had used the polarizer and flash at the same time. I know I would have given up about up to two stops with the filter which would have meant a slower shutter speed and the boat was moving, ever so slightly, so it may not have worked out? But maybe next time, live and learn! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1 / Av( Aperture Value ) 22.0 / ISO Speed 100 / Lens EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS / Focal Length 18.0mm / B + W Polarizer For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr

  • Experimenting with watercolours today I created this loose one out of my imagination picturing a peaceful place full of colour and wonder. 10×12” watercolour on Arches paper. Twilight ‘Tis the light between day and night / the glow of the sky is such a sight. / The time in between hanging in the air / the rays of light proud in their glare. The sun’s flame paints the sky / shadows falling the bird’s cry. / Magical images fill your mind / the mystery of nature is one of a kind. • West coast early morning light at Temma on Tasmania’s northern west coast as far as the coastal gravel road goes south. Tasmania is in Sth East Australia. After this its mud in winter and soft sand in summer. For about a one week period on the changeovers from wet to dry and dry to wet you can get an normal car 10 miles further south (if you dont really care about the gearbox, sump or exhaust system) The sky is the natural colour slightly underexposed. / Below the horizon the coppery colour has been auto corrected out and a white and black point added.
