Landscape of the Lord St. Malo outside of Estes Park, Colorado. One of thee most photographed Churches in all of North America, I was VERY excited and VERY anxious to get this shot when I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was hoping that the weather would clear because behind this, covered in the clouds, is Mt. Meeker and it is just a stunning view with the mountains! I have to admit though, I am really happy how this came out. And if anything, it is quite unique compared to how it is usually shot. I suppose that is a good thing when it comes to photographing something that is such an icon. Generally, people walk down by the pond and shoot from there, I stayed up top on the side of the road, thus giving a different perspective than most. Also, the weather. It was dramatic as all heck! You could smell the rain as it came in, dark, but with so much drama in the sky. I was pretty lucky to get a shot like this. Ya, I am happy with it! “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, and ye shall find rest unto your soul. For my words are soothing, and my way is light.” And thus she left earth-bound troubles behind, fleeing her fears into the night. PLEASE VIEW LARGE.. !! This was taken early in the morning as we arrived for our journey to the Elephant Seal area. Mists and light and Peace. Taken in the Año Nuevo SNR State Natural Reserve Northern California / ELEPHANT SEAL AFTERNOON I have used this form of morning meditation for quite some time and feel the ease of this practice and results in a more generous day with better focus. This is a meditation to begin the day. In a seated pose, focus on your breath. Cultivate a steady, relaxed breath. Then ask yourself: What is my intention today? After posing the question, rest your attention on the out-breath. This creates a spaciousness of attention on the in-breath. There is no direction for the in-breath. Do not get carried away by thinking, but also do no tightly control the attention. Continue to notice each out breath. Sit until you are struck by a clarity of intention. It comes not by chasing it down with thinking, but by stilling the mind and creating space. It may take a few minutes, or much longer. If no specific intention announces itself to you, simply commit to acting ethically and with mindfulness. That is certainly an intention that we can all practice each day. This meditation seems simple, and it is simple. It’s power lies in its ability to help us act intentionally throughout the day. If you practice this meditation each morning, you will find yourself more ‘awake’ behind the wheel of your life*.
The holy city of Safed, perched on a mountain top in the upper Galilee, conjures many images to all lovers of the city. The romantic flavor of narrow cobblestone lanes and ancient synagogues fills one’s lungs with a new spirit. The rusty old houses with there domed roofs clearly identifies the city with the mysterious past of the Holy Land. The history of Safed, in real terms, dates back only five hundred years to the beginning of the 16th century. As if out of nowhere, Jews from near and far settled there – as if answering a divine call – and built the largest Jewish settlement in Palestine. Furthermore, great scholars and mystics opened yeshivos in Safed, being an added incentive to other young men of wisdom to settle there. In one sense, the last half of the 16th century was the pinnacle of Torah grandeur which the city experienced. The author of the Shulchan Aruch (Jewish Code of Laws), Rabbi Joseph Karo, sat at the head of the rabbinical court while compiling his compendium of Jewish Law. At the same time, another saintly man by the name of Rabbi Isaac Luria revealed the mystical side of the Torah, called Kabalah. Together these men and their disciples opened new pathways to the Torah which embedded an invisible holiness in the very rocks of the city. Today everyone who strolls through the city is caught off guard by the hidden spirit of Safed which vibrates full of life after so many generations. Not only newcomers are surprised, but even weathered old comers as well. Homage to Safed. Thanks Paul for allowing me the pleasure of working my magic on this wonderful SP he took.
This is MANY photos, layers, and textures deep. so much so I could not understand why my iMac was being slow towards the end well turns out the raw unmerged file is well over a GIG. I think this is my biggest yet. / Thank you for looking! This actually started out to be a DARK Image but nothing would really work out. Once I completed it I showed my brother. He and I are very close and he said have you noticed that you are no longer in the dark at the bottom of your art? You are now in the light and right in the center and moving higher with each piece? / WOW what an impact that had on me! My earlier art was dark and basically I was putting myself in Hell in most of my work But I think I worked through so much with my art that time and gaining some self worth has moved me upwards and I have allowed myself to leave the self made cage/hell and go into the light and really LIVE. / Thank you Joey for helping me along the way. I would never have made it without your Love.
Aboriginal (spiritually-centred) culture is dying, slowly but surely withering within most who claim such heritage — contaminated, corrupted, polluted — disappearing before my living eyes. My heart, my spirit ‘sings’ when ever I have the opportunity to get a glimpse of its remnants, its power, its potency within those few who still struggle to embody the essence of this most ancient ways of relating and living amongst these modern daze. The younger ones mostly want to be “rappers”, get down, and boogie, in acculturated and soul-numbing manner. It is the ways of these times, no fault nor blame, it just is for most. For years I have pined the loss of the spiritual-centre of the Aborigines and their cultural Laws and principles. A loss not only to those of the Aboriginal nations of this country, but also a loss to all of us, of meaning and perspective regarding our inter-connectedness to all that is. I am privileged to know this young man. I know his mother, and I knew his Grandfather. I know his story, his struggles and challenges. And I have witnessed his smile, when he dances in the way of the ancients — I see “them” light-up his being, whenever “they” are sung-up, to dance within him. My heart sings for that time, that moment, that glimpse. And then all returns to normal… I trust he can continue to weather the “storms” that gather around him too often in the people of his kind. I can only hope he grows stronger from each battle he overcomes, calling on the essence of his Spirit from within his body, beneath his skin. I have done this image as a gift to that young man, and to his ill and ailing mother. I wish to share this further, to others whom may hear the humming of the Storm Dreamer — I feel its time to dance, to “dream”, to clear the toxins and the toxic once again, anew… _This image has been Featured in the following RB Groups: 1 In The Beginning – Ancient Practices; Gods and Goddesses; Enchanting Powerful Photo Manipulation; This Is Relevant; 100%; and Inspired Art _ ~ As a Matted Print: ~ As a Framed Print ...and as a Card…
Since time immemorial, the Way to the Tjukurritja (Dreamtime) has been maintained and honoured through various rites-of-passage, and an ensuing disciplined life that revolved around necessary sacred ritual. Instructions from the “agents” (Ancestral Beings) of the Kurrunpa (the life force in all), were entrusted to the initiated; the enlightened, and the custodial. Often, these “messianic-like” people, living within the context of their societies and respective territories, were referred to as “people of High Esteem” … the medicine wo/men and Law men of their respective communities. With the advent and embracing of the Agricultural; Industrial; Scientific and Techno-logical Ages respectively, coupled with the spread of the resultant “Lost Tribes” and colonisation, the demise of knowledge-enabled aboriginal peoples of this world is now upon us. Some of the essential elements of Tjukurritja Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime Story) have survived in the newer societies, though much is lost through the tyranny of distance, erosion, eradication, exploitation, and the evolvement and enforcement of earth-bound time. Even though there have been many attempts to encapsulate and explain the Tjukurritja’s vitalness in definitive terms, the Dreamtime has evaded contemporary analysis and continues to elude the intelligentsia and the selfish “seekers” of the civilised world. ~ Excerpted from my short essay Before Its Gone
